What should i do if I'm losing my voice and have to sing a solo for Friday Recidles?(School thing)
What should I take//eat//drink?? Reply me back A.S.A.P.!
it's so great. it has this stuff in it that will clear up your throat (especially if you gargle with it!) my mom usually gets it for me at hannafords.
also, put some honey on a tablespoon and squeeze some lemon into it and then eat it. (just one tablespoon though!) i know that sounds like it won't help but i guess it'll throat your coat or something.
also, if you have a vaporizer, put that up in your room over night this way the steam will clear up your voice. [ jade's advice column | Ask jade A Question ]
XSugarPieX77 answered Friday May 27 2005, 2:22 pm: Hey. Get a tablespoon of honey and swallow it,sounds weird but it totally helps you can also put the honey in tea, tea helps a lot. Drink lots of water and suck on some cough drops. Good Luck.

Siren_Cytherea answered Thursday May 26 2005, 4:29 pm: Oh that sounds familiar.
Drink TONS of water. When I'm sick, I drink like 2 liters a day at least.
Invest in Halls Vapor Action strawberry cough drops (Strawberry is the most tolerable in my opinion, and works well. Cherry's stronger.)
Drink mint tea
(here's a tip with the tea, make it like regular tea, put sugar in it, or whatever, and put a mint cough drop in it and mix it around a little. It helps so much. I reccomend the "natural" Ricolas. They're square, and they're just mint. They go very well with Bigelow's Mint Medley tea.)
Also, regular tea with honey is good. Or honey lemon cough drops, if you can find them.
If you're having phlegm issues, put a little lemon juice in your water. That'll help cut through the phlegm. If you haven't tried it before, though, I wouldn't try it the morning of your solo. Citrus tends to make my phlegm worse, but it helps everyone else.
Like a lot of other people said, you can Try gargling salt water, but if it's a virus, that might not help.
Eat no dairy, it'll just coat your throat and make it harder to sing. Try to stay away from spicy foods. You can drink caffeinated stuff, that shouldn't be a problem - coffee actually helps me, as long as I put no cream in it.
If your throat hurts, get N'Ice cough drops, citrus. Those are great. Sugarless, smooth, strong, and soothing.
Eat veggies - celery is good, cucumber, anything that has a lot of juice. There really isn't anything you need to avoid like the plague aside from dairy and MAYBE spicy food.
Also, take a hot shower. Steam works wonders on a dying voice.
I've tried all of these, just so you know. I'm a performing singer, so I've gotta be in control of my voice all the time.
Go to bed early tonight. Make sure you get a lot of sleep.
(I send my sympathies, and good luck healing.)
I hope this helps!

Daisy answered Thursday May 26 2005, 12:31 pm: If you are losing your voice then here are some useful tips!!!
Stop talking - whisper instead - it's obvious your vocal chords are worn out. Drink plenty of fluids, lots of warm drinks and if it is chilly wear a scarf or a high necked top. [ Daisy's advice column | Ask Daisy A Question ]

Karen answered Thursday May 26 2005, 7:30 am: If you're losing your voice, then try not to strain your vocal chords as much; don't talk a lot and yell because that will make your voice even worse. Drink a lot of water and honey tea (it will help relax your vocal chords). You can also try sucking on a hard candy while you're at school or during the day. xXxpinky615xXx answered Thursday May 26 2005, 7:08 am: Drink honey tea. Drink as much as possible. Gargle salt water and drink more honey tea, then drink honey tea, then after that, drink honey tea :) I think you get the idea. It works like a charm. Try not to talk too much because that will just irritate your throat even more, so keep your mouth shut and also drink as much fluids as possible. Good luck! SAMzasis answered Thursday May 26 2005, 1:59 am: OOoooooh, I had a similar thing before. I understand you. First, if you have a cold, don't talk. What ever you do, don't talk. Write in a small notebook if you desperately have to say something important. I did this, but then again, I wronte a whole page about something useless. Anywho, drink water, don't use your throat too much to speak. Whispering is the worst, don't do it, cause you use more muscles for it. also, keep your throat warm, and I know it's summer, but don't get any cold-ness. Like... don't go so close to an air-conditioning thing.

FunnyCide answered Thursday May 26 2005, 1:47 am: Not milk or icecream. Orange juice, olive oil (it tastes nasty, but it works), bananas, oranges, apples and salads are good. Avoid things with lactose in them. (Milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt etc, etc.) Things like that coat your vocal cords and they feel good, but they don't get better and it changes the way your voice sounds when you sing. Olive oil helps coat your throat without affecting your voice. Orange juice and fruit help your throat heal.
Happy singing!
