So Nervous About Cheerleading Tryouts... Any advice?

Question Posted Saturday April 23 2005, 6:42 pm

I'm trying out for the JV Cheerleading team for my freshman year on Monday. I'm really nervous and I wanted to know if theres anything you should really know. I was just wondering if there was anything specific. Good advice means a good rating. :)

Additional info, added Saturday April 23 2005, 9:24 pm:
On my form thing, it says that they will teach you a cheer and you have to perform it. Is this always the case? I'm not sure I know a good enough cheer if they want one on the spot, I know a couple, but they aren't great. .

OO i had cheerleading tryouts alot time ago and this is what i did.. Ok here is some good tips:
.be confident
.if you mess up, smile and make your next move the sharpest
.smile at all times
*they look for the "all american girl"
^ what ever that means
.make ALL your moves sharp
.stand out
.be loud
.if you cant tumble, try doing a cartwheel, or roundalph << if you need to for extra points

i hope this helps! good luck! im sure you will do good!

well im not a cheerleader but im around hem enough during football season and really, it doesnt matter how cheesy the cheer really is, its how you perform it. smile like its the coolest thing youve ever done. some think that if they dont put effort into it or not project, theyll look cuter, but really from a spectators point of view, it looks and sounds really bad. posture...that will make you stand out in a good way so dont slouch! if they do teach you a new cheer, learn it as good as you can and if you mess up, keep going...thats a good thing no matter what you do/play. luck <3

Remember to be loud, smile BIG the WHOLE time, make sure your movements are precise (not flopping around like jelly, lol), and make sure you aren't that nervous for tryouts. You will be more likely to mess up if you are nervous! GOod luck.

Good question..I'm a varsity cheerleader for school and i cheer for a competition squad..the things you need to know are to project your voice loud..smile..give cute little gestures with your eyes and stuff..ya know?..just act all cute and act like your having fun..be stiff and dont let them see that you are nervous..let them think that you know you will make the squad..before you go in to tryout dont even think about it..you'll do great..just do everything you have learned..you'll be sure to make it..hope i helped and good luck on monday!

I used to be a cheerleader and when you try out, make sure you are loud and be stiff, as in don't slouch and such. Smiling is always a plus when trying out. These are some things that you should know.
