I have a project for which I've been asked to interpret the lyrics of my choice of song.
I've chosen 'Glycerine' by Bush and, although the song is brilliant, I can't get get one clear meaning from it. I'm really terrible at breaking stuff like this down and I need a little bit of help.

I can explain that one very easily. It's about heroin addiction. But when I listen to Glycerine... I am not sure. he could be saying anything. Probably about a bad relationship though [ suzbird's advice column | Ask suzbird A Question ]
shootingstar25xo answered Thursday April 21 2005, 4:32 pm: I think the song is meant to have multiple meanings, and for everyone to have different interpretations of the lyrics. I think the song is referring to a relationship that was once perfect, in the beginning. Then everything got messed up and there are a bunch of mixed feelings and such. There are crazy emotions firing at you all at once, loving, hating, wanting more, wanting less, which leads me to believe that there is more than one possible interpretation. Hope i helped! (My interpretation in the first verse) so you enjoy what you have now. In the second verse my interpretation is that her companions are not that true to their selves so that's why she's alone even if she's not. Most of our companions seek what's good for their selves and not for their friends but when we rise like what the song said then we'll suddenly have many companions. And the interpretation for the other verses is that when we fight our friends or companions, that's the time when we needed them most to understand us and help us in the complicated things we have to undergo in our life. MFS answered Wednesday April 20 2005, 11:57 pm: Perhaps the song was written so that the listener could interpret the lyrics different ways...
I write songs. I will sometimes intentionally write in vague terms so that the listener can add their own meaning to the song. Sure, I write them with a purpose, and I provide a framework, but I tend to not be very specific.
Skimming their lyrics, they flat-out have a Beatles reference in there... and it appears to be about a violent breakup... I see elements that refer to death and general bleakness. So, it appears that this song is very much the same deal - written with a certain amount of vaguenes but with a decent use of imagery to create a mood - and the mood is more important than the acual words.
