A question for the musically competent. I have a project for which I've been asked to interpret the lyrics of my choice of song.
I've chosen 'Glycerine' by Bush and, although the song is brilliant, I can't get get one clear meaning from it. I'm really terrible at breaking stuff like this down and I need a little bit of help.
It would help if you know this song but, if you want to give it a try anyways, there lyrics can be found here: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Could someone tell me THEIR interpretation of the song?
Thanks in advance.

You should have picked Denial by Sevendust. ]
Alright. Seriously... I am so not sure. If you want to pick another song for interpretation.. pick Hotel California by The Eagles.. I can explain that one very easily. It's about heroin addiction. But when I listen to Glycerine... I am not sure. he could be saying anything. Probably about a bad relationship though ]
Tell your teacher its a song about mouthwash she'll never know the difference. ]
I think the song is meant to have multiple meanings, and for everyone to have different interpretations of the lyrics. I think the song is referring to a relationship that was once perfect, in the beginning. Then everything got messed up and there are a bunch of mixed feelings and such. There are crazy emotions firing at you all at once, loving, hating, wanting more, wanting less, which leads me to believe that there is more than one possible interpretation. Hope i helped! ]
Hey, well i think that interpretations of songs are different for each person but you can kindof get ideas from all these other people. and i think they're good ideas too. also, if you want there is a site www.songfacts.com and then go search by artist. bush. glycerine. and then it'll tell you a few random facts about it and usually the meaning of the song. hope this is ok. c ya xxx ]
For me, the interpretation of the song is like this, nothing is temporary in this world. (My interpretation in the first verse) so you enjoy what you have now. In the second verse my interpretation is that her companions are not that true to their selves so that's why she's alone even if she's not. Most of our companions seek what's good for their selves and not for their friends but when we rise like what the song said then we'll suddenly have many companions. And the interpretation for the other verses is that when we fight our friends or companions, that's the time when we needed them most to understand us and help us in the complicated things we have to undergo in our life. ]
Hmmm I've listened to that before... it is DEFINETELY a hard song to comprehend... but just listen to it, read the lyrics, and eventually, you'll get it! ]
Perhaps the song was written so that the listener could interpret the lyrics different ways...
I write songs. I will sometimes intentionally write in vague terms so that the listener can add their own meaning to the song. Sure, I write them with a purpose, and I provide a framework, but I tend to not be very specific.
Skimming their lyrics, they flat-out have a Beatles reference in there... and it appears to be about a violent breakup... I see elements that refer to death and general bleakness. So, it appears that this song is very much the same deal - written with a certain amount of vaguenes but with a decent use of imagery to create a mood - and the mood is more important than the acual words. ]
