HyperactiveMiss answered Saturday April 9 2005, 7:27 pm: Get enough sleep at night. Being tired definitely doesn't help any. Eat three meals a day (Breakfast, lunch, dinner).
At School: Don't let your mind wander around. If your teacher is talking, listen to them and understand what they're saying. Get interested. The only way you can fully concentrate is to get interested in what you're doing. Do not listen to other conversations going around in the classroom, focus on what you need to focus on.
At Home: Stay away from the computer, television, phone, anything else that may distract you. Try to do your homework right when you get home from school so you will have enough energy to do it. Eat a snack. Take short breaks if you can't concentrate. Keyword is short, remember that. You could take a short walk in your backyard. To motivate you to finish your homework quickly, think about the rewards you can have AFTER you finish everything. The quicker you finish things, the more time you get to relax.
If you have thoughts crowding your head during class or at home while you are trying to do schoolwork, quickly jot them down so you can get back to them later. This will relieve you from those thoughts and you can get back to work.

I have taken medication for Attention Deficit Disorder since the third grade and it helps me a lot. I also suggest practicing good study habits. Like not doing homework in front of the tv or computer. Not listening to music or talking on the phone. Try it for a week or so with or without the medication and I'm sure you will see an improvement. [ freun989's advice column | Ask freun989 A Question ]

S_C answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 7:44 pm: Well if it's class work, and the teacher is done explaining how to do it, ask if you can sit in the hall or in a corner alone or something. When I'm near people, or when there's lots of stuff around me my mind will wander, but if I'm sitting by myself, out in a hallway, or just in a corner I can focus much better. My math teacher usually lets me do the homework out in the hall as long as I don't talk to anyone walking up or down the hall (because it'll get her, not me, in trouble...)
But that's what helps me. Seeing I'm not a doctor, and I don't know you, and I've never seen how you behave or anything, I could be SO totaly wrong it's not even funny (though why would it be?) But being unable to focus is a symptom of ADD... I mean heck, a lot of people can't focus on what they're doing, and if it was serious then a teacher probably would've said something to you or your parents, so I HIGHLY DOUBT it, but I'm just saying it's a symptom... if you have a bunch of these, then you could even have ADD, I again say I'm not a doctor, I don't know you, and I don't know anything about your behaviours, I'm just saying it's a symtom... even though many teens and adults face the fact that it's hard to concentrate, but here's a list of other symptoms [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Don't want to scare you, and I'm probably wrong about this, but I figure I'd just share what the first thought that came to my mind was. So yeah, you can look at the site, but you don't have to take me seriously unless you TRULY think you have a lot of the symptoms.
Hope I helped, sorry if I made you think with the whole ADD thing, just ignore it if you want. <3 always, Kate [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
