This is a little weird

Question Posted Sunday April 3 2005, 4:20 am

Hey guys,
My older sister wanted to know if a snake can grow it's head back if it gets cut off. She thinks that she heard that somewhere, but she's not sure. It seems to me like she's thinking of a worm or something lol. Her boyfriend was telling her that snakes can't grow their head back, but she was saying that they can. I wanted to find out for her. Someone answer please!!!! Don't make fun of the question either, because I'm not even sure if it's true. I sort of think it's true, yet I don't think it's true. If your nice, and you give a good answer I'll rate you!!!! Thank you so much! :-)

no it doesnt seem very possible...if a snakes head was cut off nothing could get to its brain and it would die. its pretty much impossible.

I have never heard that anytime in my life.

But I did hear that starfish can regrow thier arms. That's the only thing I've heard of that might have gotten her confused.

Snakes cannot regrow a lost head. Snakes are not able to regrow any lost body parts. Worms, however, can regrow a tail. If the worm's head is cut off, it will grow a tail in the heads place. The worm will die of starvation, but it's a nice touch to say it had both ends.. lol Octopus, Squid, lizzards and a few other amphibians are able to re-grow lost body parts, and sharks are able to re-grow teeth.
Aren't you a sweet sister for finding out? lol That's why if you cut a snakes head off, it dies. But it's more fun to just stab it.. or set it on fire.. :D

No, snakes cannot grow their heads back if it gets cut off because since snakes have bones and nerves, once its head is cut off, it's dead.

No. That's ridiculous. Worms can regenerate because they don't really have brains, but snakes do. Once the head is off it is off for good.

However, there are two-headed snakes, flying snakes, and snakes that curl up into a massive ball of hundreds of their serpent friends.

Snakes have spines and brains. If they're brain was disconnected from their spine, then they would die.

Worms do not have spines. They are completely different species even though they still have the long wiggly aspect of them.

So, no, a snake cannot grow it's head back when if it gets cut of. It can only succeed in dying.

hey! it's not possible. A worm can grow back its other side, but not its head. However, Snakes have bones and all, so once it's cut anywhere, it's dead.
