Hey I'm trying to look up guitar tabs for nirvana and I went to a website but I'm not sure how to read them.
Can anyone explain please?
I want to learn "smells like teen spirit." I tried asking my brother for help because he used to know how to play it but he hasn't in a while and probably too busy to help me now..
so if it's possible can anyone explain this to me so I could try to learn it?
Sporkster answered Sunday March 20 2005, 4:33 pm: Ok, here's how you read the tabs:
E ---(3)-----------------------------
B ---(3)-----------------------------
G ---(0)-----------------------------
D ---(0)-----------------------------
A ---(2)-----------------------------
E ---(3)-----------------------------
Ok, the lines represent the strings of a guitar. The numbers in parentheses on the lines represent which fret the fingers are on. For example, the chord G is shown on the tab above. This is a pretty easy way to read guitar music...more like cheating. But I find it MUCH easier than reading it like you would read...say...piano music. heres an example of a tab so i can show you:
1-3------4------1-----6
2----2-------4-----5----
3--------4------10-----
4----------------------
5----------------------
6---------0--------------
(Dont try and play it cuz i just made it up)
You see the 3 on the top line, that means you play the third fret on the top string, which you can number 1 to 6, depending on how high string sounds. on the line i have numbered 2, as you can see, you play the second string wiht you finger holding the string down on the 2nd fret. The frets have little dots on them, one dot for the third fret, one for five and two for the seventh fret.
You see the the line i have numbered 6,and there is a 0, that means you play the bottom string (the thickest one) without holding any strings down.
THe lines show the string you play the note on and the numbers show which fret you hold down the string on. Its realy quite simple after you get the hang of it.
