lie to mom?
theres this guy i like and he likes me too... but i dont think my mom would approve of him because he smokes. everytime i want to hang out with him i have to lie to my mom, which i feel bad about. i've tried talking to her but she doesnt listen. any ideas?

ok well here we go my dad doesn't approve of my bf cuz we've gone out so much and w/ but ne ways you shouldn't care what you mom thinks if you really like the guy you go for him and if she like ever wants to meet him or anything just tell him to buy some new cloths that don't smell like smoke and tell him to brush his teeth real good and chew gum the whole night just to be one the safe side............

The thing is if he smokes your mom will be able to smell it on you.She might think it's you who is doing the smoking and really come unglued.So, lying sbout seeing him is not a real good idea.
Is it just this guy or all of them she has a problem with?

Has the guy every asked you to smoke with him? If so, he probably isn't a very good person to hang out with although you like him. I'm sorry but if I was your mom I would have the same position.. Imagine how she feels, probably scared for you. I mean, it just shows she cares, as mean as she probably seems right now. If you really like him and want to get to know him better I suggest you ask him not to smoke around you. If you tell your mom he won't do it around you, or if you introduce him and let him tell her that.. then she'll probably trust you more.

Smokers are really bad to get into. However this could be a good opportunity for him to quit smoking. First make your mom listen wether that means writing a letter or not. Tell her you are going to try to get him to quit. Make that the truth and talk with him about how your mom feels. believe it or not they do know best when it comes to boys. You are intitled to be the most pricy and picky when it comes to boys never lower your standerds and always set them high.

alright, first off...don't lie to your parents. they will find out and you will be in huge trouble.
second, you say that this guy likes you, right? well, if he likes you enough he should respect you and maybe he will stop smoking for you. all you have to do is ask. and he questions it, tell him that you like him, but is unsure about the parentals.
finally, try talking to your mom again. it never hurts to try again. you will probably be more miserable if you don't try again.

hi umm, well your mom has her reasons for that, she cares about you which is good so dont get mad at her, i think you should talk to her and say that just because he smokes doesnt make him a bad person, and that you wontsmoke (at least i hope not cuz its bad) ..and yeah..thats all i can think of...

Alright.. Regardless if you want this advice or not, im going to tell you my opinion. Your parents opinion about the guys you date should really matter to you (or at least it does to me), so you should really talk to this guy and tell him that your parents opinion matters to you and ask him if there is any way that he could try to quit smoking to be with you. Your parents will be more accepting if they see that he is making an effort to stop smoking. Just try alright? lol!

umm..*tilts head* You may not like this answer, but its kinda the truth. Your mom/ parents opinion matters a little bit. if you truly love him and you want your mom to accept him, try to get him to quit smoking. While you shouldnt depend souly on everything others think consider this.... you get to stop lying..your mom will accept him.. and he wont die of lung cancer...everybody wins.

well depending on your age this situation could go a few ways: if you are about 13 i think your mom just doesnt want you to start smoking. does the boy know that your mom doesnt want you to hang out with him? does he want to quit smoking? try to convince your friend to stop smoking and try to be more honest with your mom.

Although she doesn't listen, you're going to have to make her listen!
Bring up the topic by asking her that you want to have a talk to her about boys. Tell her that you value her opinion and that's the main reason why you want to talk to her. Bring it up like well I like this boy, and I want you to meet him so that you can get to know him and I'll know how you feel about him. After all, I don't want to disrespect you.
Your mom should be very impressed :)
