I woke up this morning and i've had it all day and this monday i have to sing for a competition...wat are some good remedys for a sore throat and is it safe??
Shortie answered Sunday March 6 2005, 11:09 am: dear singing,
ive heard wearing a scarf around your neck works. you could also try drinking hot cocoa. i think you could call a doctor and ask too. don't overwork your voice, because that is the main cause of a sore throat and loosing your voice. thats all i could come up with...
TeenageCupid answered Sunday March 6 2005, 8:00 am: just drink hot drinks, rest your throat, and dont talk and definately dont shout! Buy some "halls" and eat them all day. Orange and Lemon juice also helped me feel better many times, just drink them warm. [ TeenageCupid's advice column | Ask TeenageCupid A Question ]

I figured out the hard way that it is possible to get addicted to those...lol, so don't eat just those.
Those are good for a short, temporary fix, but drink a LOT of water. Like, carry around a liter of it and just drink and drink...
Mint tea works very well also, and so does tea with honey to soothe a sore throat.
But I really do reccomend mostly water, and tea in the morning. Whatever you do, don't push your voice this weekend!
I'm a singer, so I know exactly what you're going through, lol. The natural flavored Ricolas are good for keeping your throat clear right before you have to sing, drink water with them in your mouth to get some more of the mint into your throat (my own trick) just don't choke on it...lol.
So just guzzle water until your throat feels better, and if your throat hurts the day of the competition, you can do a little bit of dairy like half a glass of milk or something to just coat it a little and help soothe it, if you have an hour or two before you have to compete.
Trust me, I know you're not supposed to do dairy before you sing, but if your throat hurts, coat it with something that'll stop it from feeling so raw - but make sure you drink a lot of water after it!
I hope this helps, and good luck at your competition!
