Question Posted Thursday February 17 2005, 3:16 pm
I have pursued modeling for over a year now, but lately I don't really know if I want to become a model. I am 5'4" to begin with. My height discourages me a little, but I feel likes it's more than that. Am I just trying to get validation for my looks? I don't know if modeling is even my style. I like to pose and take pictures, but I don't know that I want that instability w/ trying to break into the industry and trying to get discovered. I really need help. I don't know what to do. I don't know what I would do as a career. I am F/21

Simply put, it's going to be very very hard to find a place that'll accept you as a regular model. When someone designs clothing and makes a piece to be modeled, they rarely make it for someone as short as you; the clothes won't fit well without alterations, which causes headaches for the agencies. Moreover, the whole beauty component of the model tends to include a somewhat tall woman.
I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying there are serious roadblocks that you will have to fight constantly if you continue to pursue the path of a model. [ Hellheart's advice column | Ask Hellheart A Question ]

But since you aren't 100% sure you want to pursure this career, then you should definitely start looking into something else. It is NOT too late, and is never too late, to start going to a junior college. If I were you, that is definitely what I would do. Put modeling to the side for awhile but don't quit. Definitely don't quit, just take it easy for awhile. Maybe focuse on modeling 2-3 days a week, and then rest, work and goto school. Sign up for classes at a JC near you. Hope that helped [ PuReLuVeR143's advice column | Ask PuReLuVeR143 A Question ]

Of course, I can see you've already thought loads about it, but if you really love to model you should keep on doing it. Don't worry about your height, if your already modeling then its safe to say they dont care how tall you are! I personally think you should ask friends and people who know you best to help you with this decision. Good luck! [ x0xdearachelx0x's advice column | Ask x0xdearachelx0x A Question ]
BeautifulMadness answered Thursday February 17 2005, 3:29 pm: Hmm...well, if you're doubting it, you're obviously unhappy with it...modelling is very stresfull and if you don't think you need that, then get out of it. However, it doesn't have to be all or nothing - you could be a model on the sideline, just for department stores and the like.
Have you considered being a photographer? That way you're still in the industry but don't get as much stress. Or how about an artist's model?
And finally, congrats on being a model at 5'4"! That's seriously a great achievement! So don't give it up unless you're sure!! Maybe you could go on hiatus and try out a few other jobs for a couple of months?

Only you can really decide what you want to do at the end of the day...sorry this is such a vague answer, but I don't know you any more than what you've said in this question, so I can't say much else!!
