Okay, I just want to know why so many people consider suicide. What do they think it will achieve? Do they really think everyone will be better off if they are dead? Everyone would just be upset! So please, someone enlighten me.

sarah0308 answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 9:55 pm: people commit suicide because they think no one cares about them and they dont have any solution to their problems or anyone to talk to. yes, it is upset to other people when someone commits suicide, but the person who did it doesnt think of it that way. he doesnt think no one will miss him because no one cares about him to begin with. im not sayin all of this is true it is just some solutions to some of your questions.

S_C answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 8:17 am: There are sooo many reasons that people want to committ suicide. First you say "everyone would just be upset" have you ever thought that those people that are contemplating suicide don't feel that way. I'll let you in on a little secret, I was at one point suicidal. I just wanted to give up, but then a few different people helped me realize that you have to get through the hard times to reach the good. It might sound crazy to some people, but to those people that have contemplated suicide, well it was either because something terrible happened in their life, or they felt guilty about something big, or their parents beat them, and they thought the only way to no longer feel miserable was just to die. You've never felt so bad that you said "I wish I was dead" or you've felt bad and you said those words? Well some people take that to the extreme. Also some people who drink, or do drugs are so out of it that they kill themselves. Or someone is a loner at school, and people are really mean to them, so they decide well nobody likes me, why don't I just die. There was this one kid at my school last year, we were terrible to him, then we heard this story about how people were really mean to this one girl and she hung herself on the basketball hoop in her school gym listening a few names on a piece of paper saying are you happy now. Since I heard that story last year I've tried not to be as mean, but really no offense but that is a somewhat stupid question. There are people that go through a lot of stuff and feel the only way out is death. And I haven't read through my answer, so if anything doesn't make sense, or sounds rude, well sorry. ~* Kate *~ [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]

bucsbaby6969 answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 7:17 am: i think bout suicide a lot of times, and its because even tho people mite be sad bout our death i persoanlly think peoples lives would get better and for other people which i fall into this to have been sexually abused and/or physically abused. Some can even be very disliked in skools (a nerd) and feel no reason to live so they try to die. I know that a person shouldnt feel this way but when people cut themselves it makes em feel better a lot of the times. Ok well there u go [ bucsbaby6969's advice column | Ask bucsbaby6969 A Question ]
BeautifulMadness answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 7:15 am: There are loads of different reasons, and most people who do commit suicide are psychologically messed up and way past the point where they could think about other people's feelings. For most people, life is so bad and there is no other way out that suicide is the only option. They could sit pretty and hope things get better, but by the time that has happened, most people will be seriously depressed and not be able to see how things are better, or how they can help themselves in other ways. Depression is kind of blinding - it's a very hard thing to get out of and you simply can't see how things could be better when you suffer from it.
A shockingly high number of women who have had abortions kill themselves because they feel so guilty but refuse the counselling offered to them/are not offered counselling. Many rape victims also commit suicide, as do a lot of prisoners, or people who wish to be euthanised because they are so ill, but the law doesn't allow it.
Some people really are just incredibly unlucky as well and have a lot of bad things happening to the people around them. Sometimes it really does make them think they are responsible.
All I can say is, be glad that you don't know or understand the reasons - it shows how happy you are!!
Blessed Be,

Asc answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 3:38 am: Well, what's the point of life? Taking the long view, a lot of time passes, and then you die. Living takes quite a lot of effort, and if life sucks and is looking to get worse more or less indefinitely, why bother? Cut to the chase and you get to skip however many years of suck.
Everyone's reasons and reasoning is different, but that's what makes sense to me. Some people (who generally have some kind of significant mental disorder) really do believe that people would be better off if they were dead. Others want to escape, sometimes it is no doubt a cry for help (note - girls attempt suicide something like eight times more often than boys, but boys succeed much more frequently). Well, I'm no psychologest, but with and luck that should help. You'd probably be better off finding a book on the subject, if you want detail. [ Asc's advice column | Ask Asc A Question ]
TheTeenGirl answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 1:39 am: I know what you mean. I'll let you in a little secret about that. Most people who say they want to do, don't. It is mostly attention seekers. Now there are those who are in so much misery they think that if they were gone, they wouldn't have to be so miserable, because when you're really miserable, you pretty much get to the point of where you'd do anything in the world, even if it means dying and hurting someone else, but they always think that nobody will care. But you're so right, they would be very upset about their child or sister/brother had died. But I think that the reason people think nobody would care, like their parents for instance, because a suicidal child is probably having a bad relationship with their parents, which makes them think that they don't care. Another thing is, that only so many people die from suicide, but people who had to find out that their child had killed themself is terrifying. What goes through their mind like "I wasn't a good parent, I was horrible" and then, they get so depressed. But because that child and their parent fought so much was because the poor kid was really sad, depressed, didn't wanna live, and for a parent living with that makes them go crazy, and they have no idea what to do. So what I've learn about suicide and having a suicide child is to always remind them that you love them, never yell at them for being sad, always trying to take them places, making sure my kid knows that they are my world and nothing less. But with suicide happening, the world is a very sad place. I hope I answered your question and gave you an idea.
Sherry answered Wednesday February 16 2005, 1:30 am: Well people do go through rough times, and sometimes they feel they cant handle it. Plus some people that commit suicide or think about it..are on pills or drugs or something. They feel that the only way to get out of their problems is to die. You may not understand it, and I dont either....but people do it. Sadly! [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
