it could be both. sometimes it a guy will say that to let a girl down easy.(that could be one of many excuses). or it could really be true.

well you never really know. it just depends on the guy. you will find out if he has a g/f in like a week or so.

I guess guys can use this in a lot of different ways. Yea, some guys use that because they arent really into you, but a lot of times, they really arent ready for a girlfriend. Maybe the guy is just getting over his old girlfriend, or maybe he just doesnt want to be tied down with another girlfriend right now. It could be a lot of different personal things. Maybe the guy is just not in a position to have a relationship with a girl.

usually hes telling the truth but if you find out there is someone else a little while later and doesnt have a need to see or talk to you anymore then its obviously an excuse. sorry if this happened to you. i know its painful.

In most cases it's the truth, unless you see him with some other girl a few days later. I've avoided plenty of relationships in the past because I wasn't ready and I'm glad.
