If you like him this much and you think you will have fun with go ahead and ask him. You coukd ask him by text, tell him in person. There are so many different ways. Just be honest

just talk to him about your feelings, hes your friend. and its better to say something then not to say anything at all and wonder.

Well, is sort of depends on what YOU think and of how he acts. If you think he seems like the player type, then be cautious, cuz since im a guy, i know how "players" act and what they're really out for. They are going to want the hottest girl to go out with them, or the most popular. So be careful, and try not to be too obsessed with him because guys like that are bound too go looking after someone else.

just come out and ask him. be like
hey so and so i was wondering if you were going to the dance on friday and if you had someone to go woth. if he says yes hes going and no he isnt going with someone then, be like would you like to go with me, atleast as a friend.

that way it shows that you like him and would like to go with him if only just as friends. this way he cant say no because he doenst like you like that, because youa sked as a friend. it may help aid in the rejection.

Well, it sounds to me like this dude is into you. To ask him to the dance, just flat out ask him, or you could write him a note or something. Or if he's into sports write it on a ball and throw it to him!
*Hope I helped & Good Luck!*
