What Major? I am a senior this year. I will be going to college next year. Here is my problem. I don't know whether to choose a Nursing major or an Art major. My parents really want me to go for nursing, but art is what I love. Plus, most artists don't make a whole lot of money. What should I do?

How about a nursing major and an art minor? Hehe, but that would be GOOD advice..."just follow your heart"...yeah...........~Jordan Wang~ ]
Do you enjoy Nursing at all? You need to think about that more, not the money aspect of it.
Of course it's more practical to take a nursing major, but practicality doesn't always work well with your sanity.
I started out my college career as an Art major. It's been my passion since before pre-school, and I would be lost if I couldn't take at least one art class a year.
After two years I decided that I wasn't going to make a career out of Art, and decided to switch to my second passion. My second passion happens to be animals, so I am now majoring in Veterinary Technology.
But I still get my Art classes whenever they come up. At the moment I'm taking an extremely low level art class, with stuff that I learned for the first time in High School. But I love it to death. It's the only thing that keeps me sane amongst all these science and medical classes that I need to take for my major.
Basically, your only a senior in High School, and almost all college students change their major at least once throughout their college career. You might decide to start out with a simply liberal arts major, and just take a variety of different classes. Or, it might be a good idea to take a Nursing major, and also have an Art minor. Or vice-versa.
Don't let your parents force you into a major that you hate, and don't only look at the money aspect. Look at EVERYTHING. Is there a big demand for people in your major? Do you enjoy it, and lastly look at the amount of money you can realistically make.
Artists are highly missunderstood. You would really be surprised at how much you can make if your passion and talent is great enough. ]
Art is a very difficult major. If you want to be an art major, you should work on your portfolio.
I don't think that you should base your major on how much money you will make in the future. Perhaps you could double major in art and something like advertising, so you would have the art major and a means of support.
If you don't want to do nursing, then don't. There comes a point in everybody's life where you have to gently break it to your parents that you are living your own life. However, if you wanted to pursue both nursing and art, I would recommend that you look into Steinhardt School of Education and Communication, which is one of the colleges in NYU.
Godd luck with applications. ]
Well seeing that you have taken all the right stuff for a nuse then thats what i would go for. I would just go into my first year and get a feel for what i want to do. ]
Hello , I say go with what you feel like will bring you to you needs , don`t let you parents put you into something that you don`t like....whatever you chose will be the best choice... just don`t get pushed into one place ]
Go for what you love. your not gonna like your classes if your in them for your parents, and you won't want to do well if your not passionate about what your doing. ]
Hi! Art is what you love you say but the probem there is that u dont make enoghg money so you should go to nursing and then get a stable job and a stady flow of money coming in then Take art. Hope this Helps!! <3 Meg ]
well only you can make that choice. you have to choose which one you like better. in your question you say that you love art. so you will want a job, that you will have for the rest of your life, doing something you actually enjoy. i hope this helps. ]
Dear Major,
Its ok to be indecisive on what you want to major in. You can go into college undeclared and take classes in both subjects. Then later see what you like better. (you can always minor in one subject and major in the other) Don't worry about money, what matters is doing what you love. ]
Hey...Do what YOU want to do...so what if the money isnt good...which is better to u....U dont want to end up picking nursing and being miserably all your life....i think you;ll make the right decision..you just gotta take time and think it through...Hope i cood help.... ]
