I have somewhat of the same thing, i havent told my parents about it yet but it is best that their parent/guardian know about it. Its pretty much an in-balence of chemicals in your brain. This can be caused by lack of excersize or from peers around you that constantly pressure you or make fun of you, it can also be from a break up.Ways to resolve this is to go to a doctor and get it diagnosed which is what has ben done by the sound of it.And they can put you on anti-depressants and tell you to seek professional help i.e a councelor or shrink.

Maniac depression is also known as bipolar depression- Bi polar depression is basically PMS to the extream. You have horrible mood swings. You can be happy one second and the next be ready to rip someone's head off.. Symptoms of bipolar depression are: -Feelings of exceptionally high energy, happiness, and creativity
- Extream irritability
- A tendancy to be easily distracted
- A decreased need for sleep
- Racing thoughs and hper-alertness
- Increased moving and talking
- Grandiose idease, overconfidence and/or a feeling of being invincible.
- Difficulty making decisions
- obnoxious behaviour
- denial that there's a problem
- risk taking behavious including drug and alcohol abuse. Bipolar disorder tends to run in families and bay be inherited, but just because someone in your family has the illness doesn't mean you'll get it too. Children under twelve have been diagnosed with pipolar disorder, but it usually starts in adolescence or early adulthood (and continues throughout life.) The bumber of teen boys and girls with bipolar disorder is about the same.

Some books you can read about Bipolar disorder- A brilliant madness: living with manic depressive illness by Patty Duke and Gloria Hockman. A unquiet mind: A memoir of moods and madness by Kay Redfield Jamison. We heard the anges of madness: a family guide to coping with Manic depression by Diane Berger and Lisa Berger. I hope this helped.

Shelby's answer was a really good one, but I just wanted to add to it. Bi-polar disorder or manic-depression is hereditary, this means that there's a good possibility that someone in his/her family has it also. As long as the individual is educated about the disorder and maintains their regiment prescribed by their doctor they can lead a normal life.

For the record, you don't have manic depression, you ARE manic depressive. If you are manic depressive, you are bi-polar. Bi-polar is a genetic neurological disorder that means you have EXTREME mood swings, i.e., one moment you are very very happy, the next you are almost suicidal. Patty Duke is manic depressive and has written a book about her battle with it. There are many internet site about bipolar disorder; check on them, they are invaluable. By the way, moments often last for days or weeks or months, even years and you never when they will suddenly switch. It can be unnerving, and it is not curable. It can, however, be controlled through therapy and medication. If you friend is manic depressive, it wouldn't hurt for you to get some therapy yourself for two reasons: 1) to understand it and 2) to protect yourself when he/she may have an episode that might emotionally hurt you (I've been on the receiving end of some of those before!) Hope I helped.

I have it.. it's Bi-polar disease, it's a chemical inbalance in your brain which causes you to have really severe mood swings.. like you can be either really hyper/happy or really homocidal, and then other times you'll be really depressed and suicidal.. Sometimes its hard to deal with, but it can be controlled.. You can IM me whenever you want to about it.. I hope I helped!

lildiamyn_69 answered Friday January 21 2005, 5:25 pm:
I've never had it, but a friend of mine did.
All I know is that it's a mood disorder and the person can feel on top of the world one minute, and the next, down in the dumps. It's caused by some kind of chemical im balance in the brain, and people who have it can think suicidal thoughts when they're down.
My friend who had it recently killed himself.:(
He was bipolar, which is exactly the same thing.(just another word)
So watch your friend and be there for them.
