comfort food

Question Posted Thursday October 28 2004, 11:56 am

Whenever I get upset, lonely or just feel bored, I always go and eat chocolate. It's starting to become a problem and I do it everyday. How can I cut down on the chocolate?

I used to do that all the time except i was addicted to little debbie cakes. Everytime i felt lonely or depressed i would eat debbie cakes..in a day id say i ate about 10 of them. I decided it had to stop so instead of reaching for the debbie cakes i would eat bananas with peanut butter. Now for some ppl it may be gross but for me it was a good choice. Or sometimes i would eat strawberrys with a lil powdered sugar on top. Its delicious..and its a healthy snack..sure peanut butter has sugar but its healthy.

Grant yourself an amount of chocolate your supposed to have a week. For example 2/3 pieces a week. If this isn't working, then you're just going to have to ask the chocolate eaters in your house to hide it so you can't find it.

Try doing something else when you're upset. A walk with your dog, a sleeoover with your best friend, clean your room, take a nap, take a hot bath, listen to music, etc. Eat something else healthier. Or stop buying chocolate!

find something else that gives you the same enjoyment. make sure it's something either better for you, or an excersize, or activity [art, making something] ... and try to reward yourself when you dont eat that much chocolate... such as after a month - whatever your goal is. =] -ask_anything

Find a different comfort food, something more healthy. Force yourself to stop buying chocolate and find an alternative. My comfort food is actually pasta. I don't know why, it just is. A good batch of fettucine alfredo solves every problem, and with the time it takes me to make it all from scratch I have already forgotten why I was upset in the first place. So maybe you should try that; find a food that takes time to prepare. If you're really, REALLY lazy make some ramen. That's like, 2 minutes and 3 calories of effort.
