Places I can help out with Youth Basketball//Starting someth
Question Posted Friday September 17 2004, 10:37 pm
Hello! I was recently told by one of my teachers that we have to do community service. Since I love basketball, I decided to either create a youth basketball organization where I can teach young kids, about 5-7, basketball basics and skills (I'm almost 14 by the way.), or join a place like YMCA where I can help out the youth basketball teams? And if it helps...I live in Michigan.
-- First of all, which one do you think is a better idea?
-- If it's the first one, how would I be able to start this, and am i old enough?
-- If it's the second one, what other place would i be able to go to help youths in basketball (besides YMCA)...I already googled and I still can't find anything..

Most libaries [or other community centers] have a list of places that doing things like what you want, so you could check there, or talk to the YMCA people and see if they have any ideas.
Good luck :) [ DruidX's advice column | Ask DruidX A Question ]

okay...
firstly your 13...that MIGHT get in the way it all depends on your size and maturity level.
2. the youth basketball organization is your best hope YMCA might but probably wont need your help only...because of your age.
3.just to let you know 5-7 is an ok age but I teach gymnastics for kids anywhere from 2 and up and 6-8 or a little older might be better believe me a large group of children is hard to keep up with!!

Try asking around the elementary schools if they have a basketball team for their kids, and if they need a volunteer. Our elementary school teams always had a high school student help out. Some Churches also run basketball leagues, so if you're into that you can try there. [ Notso's advice column | Ask Notso A Question ]

You can help out youth basketball teams there because my brother has done it before. It's great that you wanna help out kids lol. Hope I helped :) [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
