Stage Fright

Question Posted Wednesday August 4 2004, 7:02 pm

My sister and i sing. And we sing well. Sometimes friends and family will ask us to sing but if we are not together, we feel uncomfortable doing it alone. Alot of the times we need a few drinks to loosen us up. How do you get over the fear of singing in front of large groups and also how to do it without someone?

Keep practicing in front of a mirror or something by yourself. Then try singing in front of just your sister. If you then feel ready, try singing in front of just a few family members. Remember, they are family..They will understand if you mess up the first time. Just keep working on it + Good Luck!

I've never had braces before, but I might get them soon. Uhm, I would just say brush your teeth really good while you have your braces on and when they are off, maybe you could use whitestrips. You could also buy the toothpaste that is like whitening. There are whitening toothbrushes too. I don't know how good they work but I just got one (a whitening toothbrush). Hope they work well for you and I hope you have white teeth for a longg time!! ;)

Continue singing in front of your family and people you feel comfortable around. Getting good feedback from them is positve. It makes you feel good. Try to write a song with your sis and then practice it alone. One in a higher note then the other. When it comes out sounding awesome, that should help too!

The best thing is just to do it over and over. If you really know the music that you want to sing, it helps tremendously because you aren't focusing on words; you begin to focus on your audience and conveying meaning to the song.
You could also just imagine that your sister is there beside you even when she isn't It just takes a little time and practice then the confidence will come.

I heard that singing classes teach you how not to fear...did you take any? Make that's just the school I go to...Anyway, you could always try by singing to yourself in your room by yourself. Then try to put teddy bears around (or draw stick people) and "face" them.

Not sure if that works, let me know. Heh...

But hopefully it will. :)

Well there is no sure way to get rid of stage fright. Some people are just have more courage then other people in those situations. But if you want a tip on how to calm down, I would recommend seing a doctor and telling him that this singing thing is really important to you but you can't pursue it if you cant find a way to calm yourself down. He might prescribe you a tranquilizer...I use it sometimes when I am playing my bass infront of a lot of people...it does a great job.

It may sound completely REDICULOUS... but I'll say what my Daddy always tells me. And im not a daddys girl or a suck up but sometimes the best things you will ever learn comes straight from the mouths of your parents. Imagine everyones in their underwear. It may sound completely strange but it works time and again for my sister.. shes like to be on stage and sing. Picture them as if they're silly just for being there. And there the ones who are being silly. Just think of it this way... alot of them you might not even know.. so who cares what they think if you dont know them? And if you do know them.. who cares

Well stage fright isn't as bad as it looks. I know that when I act, I always feel better if someone else is there. I practice in front of a mirror.

But I know that the people out there listening to you sing are SUPPORTING you, always remember that.

You just have to do it more often and you won't be as nervous. Good luck!

You need self confidence. Just relax yourself. Practice in front of a mirror and also practice in front of small groups that u r comfortable with. You will find it much easier. Hope this helps!
