This next week I am going camping with my friend. I have never been camping ever and I am excited. Except the fact I am very afraid of water. They plan on taking us out on a boat and go swimming in the middle of the lake and do stuff like that. I dont want to be a pain, and them feel like, oh god.. why we take her. What can I do? I dont want her to get mad at me either. I am just so scared and I can barely swim.

Mercy_x_Me answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 8:39 pm: If you can barely swim, dont go if you feel that uncomfortable ... its not safe.. maybe you dont like the idea... but wear a life jacket... lol just tell her you want to wear it b/c your not awsome at swimming. If they dont have one then be the truth.... they wont think your a pain, why would they think your a pain for not wanting to drown? Just tell her ahead of time and not last minute. Like maybe BEFORE you leave haha lol. Be excited! Ive never camped.. it sounds like a ton of fun. So kick back, and relax. And be truthful to your friend, how can she get mad at you... what would she want you to do instead, drownd? noooope. Just make sure to be extra active in the rest of the activites you CAN do and that wont risk your saftey... this way they know your up to trying anything that wont consider you being hurt.

But you can always just stay on the boat for a while, and if you see them all out there having fun you might want to get in there and try it out. Its really not as scary as it seems. And if worst comes to worst then just say your stomach hurts or something, and ask if you can stay on the boat for a while. Then they won't bug you about it [ bRuNeTtExdUdEtTe's advice column | Ask bRuNeTtExdUdEtTe A Question ]

mizzfitz92 answered Wednesday August 4 2004, 2:19 pm: I would just tell her/him the truth. Or if you want to be brave, then I would wear a life jacket. And if they go out in the lake, just say your stomach hurts or you just don't feel up to it. But you might just want to tell them the truth. I'm sure they'd understand. Everyone has their phobias. Hope I helped. Have fun and good luck! -J. Fitz [ mizzfitz92's advice column | Ask mizzfitz92 A Question ]

Or if u still don't feel comfortable w/ that, u can just say "Hey I think I'm gonna sit in the boat" or somethin'. Just tell them that u r a little uncomfortable swimmin'.
