i was in the car with my dad the other night and there was this possom in the middle of the road and it looked like it had rabies b/c it was still alive...should u kill it and put it out of its missory or go around it?

Honestly, I would swerve for any animal, because neither you nor I are a vet and able to make that diagnosis. If I KNEW for a fact it had rabies, I would hit it, but then wash my car before my dogs decided to lick the blood off of it and have the carcass removed before a dog ate it and got sick as well. The worry is that it can spread rabies to other animals, including a dog or cat that may bite a child. If you really think it had rabies, you should immediately call your local animal control office so they can isolate the animal and make a diagnosis.

My advice would be to go around it. It is best to let nature run it's course. That possom may very well be needed to help something...

If you think an animal has rabies then don't go near it. If you know of any animals in your area, contact a veterinarian or an animal control officer and tell them about it. People can catch rabies also and there have only been three cases in the US where a humane has lived after having rabies. I am taking Veterinary classes in college, and had to get a rabies vaccination because I will be handling stray animals. I know this because I got information about rabies from my doctor and from the humane society where I volunteer.

how do u kno wut rabies looks like? cause when an animal has rabies they dont actually foam at the mouth. and im sure since u were in the car u were going to fast and u werent close enough to see any of its symtoms. id say go around it because its almost impossible to tell from inside ur car if its sick..there was this possom in my backyard a few months ago and we thought it was sick and dying. it actually layed its head down in the dirt with its mouth and eyes open for like 5 min while we argued over who was brave enuff to stick their finger in its mouth. we went inside the house for a trashbag and we came out and it was gone. all he was doing was playin possom. we could have sworn he was sick and had died. so my point is unless u get out of ur car and kno exactly wat rabies is and wat its symptoms r and u kno its sick and suffering..go around it..hope my preachin helped.

if it looks like it has rabies.. and suffering i would kill it.. no need for it to go aroudn spreading a disease and being uncomfortable..... so you should kill it... but if you went around it.. dont feel bad ppl make mistakes.. well hope i helped.. dont be afriad to ask for help again
