mizzfitz92 answered Monday August 2 2004, 6:17 pm: Well... you just need to focus on something small. If there are many problems, then just don't worry about them and just tell yourself, "I know that I will handle these. Just be patient." Because you are overwhelming yourself with all of those problems. Sometimes what I do to help me fall asleep is think of a spring. (Like the spring on your mattress.) Think of it going up and down. As it goes up you inhale, as it goes down you exhale. I know that sounds really stupid, but it works. You also might want to try spraying like some Lavendar spray in your room and on your pillow. That always relaxes me. Good luck! -J. Fitz [ mizzfitz92's advice column | Ask mizzfitz92 A Question ]

- You could write out all the problems on a piece of paper, and extra little details about them. Get thoughts out of your head and onto paper.
- Do an activity that takes a lot of energy. Don't do something that'll stress your body out too much, just to kind of make yourself weary so sleeping is easier.
- Listen to a CD or radio station that you can really 'get in to' so you don't think about life's dismays and think about the music so you can fall asleep. I don't suggest something loud and heavy metal-ish, though ;).
I wish you luck with falling asleep easily! :) [ MissKass's advice column | Ask MissKass A Question ]

1. Try to do some sort of activity that'll make you so tired (running or something...whatever you like) that you don't have time to think before falling asleep
2. Think about lifes stupid problems BEFORE bed, think as long as you can, so long, that you can't think anymore
3. This is a good one that works for me, keep a stereo/radio on and fall asleep (keep the volume low of course) to a favorite radio station or CD. Think about the song, and just the song, ignore lifes problems...dreaming is our only escape from reality, so just listen to the song
4. Before you go to bed, write down everything thats bothering you, it sometimes helps me because by having it down on paper, it's out of my head.
Siren_Cytherea answered Wednesday July 28 2004, 12:59 am: Try freewriting/stream-of-consciousnessing for like ten minutes straight, then lie down and breathe like you were going to meditate - in through your nose until you can't inhale anymore, out through your mouth until there's nothing left.
The writing may help clear your mind, and the meditative breathing will help relax your body.
I have a lot of trouble with sleep, too - I'm a major night owl. I have to FORCE myself to close my eyes at five in the morning, so I've taken to reading before I sleep (reading's good too, if you don't want to write), and then breathing like that.
You might want to consider getting a white noise machine - I use an aircleaner. Drowns out other sounds and gives me something else to concentrate on besides the fact that I can't sleep.
I hope I helped!

advice~gurl answered Tuesday July 27 2004, 11:50 pm: Well I totally understand because I also do this everytime I go to sleep. It's hard because I go to bed at like 12:00 and I can't sleep for a couple hours.
What I have begone to do to help me sleep is I think of some thing that makes me really happy (as weird as I sound) like my crush or something and then I force my eyes to close and then start up a dream. This takes a while sometimes but you go to sleeo faster than just laying there. It takes practice to really be able to do it and I really don't know if it will work for anyone else.
I know some of the other advicenators might say to take somekind of sleeping pill. Maybe tyonil nighttime or something. (Im kinda against anykind of pill)
Like I said I have this same problem but just do what i said or take the pill. whatever works for you!
