As someone who has attempted suicide a couple of times and is just getting out of all that mess, I can tell you there's a whole lot to live for.

Everything in life is so amazing. The trees blooming in spring, the way my boyfriend looks when he's sleeping, reading a good book, even the tiny silly things like red gummi bears! In fact, whenever I'm having doubts, I go to 1000awesomethings.com to find some inspiration. Those are the things that make life worth living.

I do the things I do every day because I only do things I enjoy. Sure, I go to school, but I chose a subject that I'm passionate about (electrical engineering) so that I like doing homework and sitting through classes. Heck, I even pull apart electronics at home. I cook because I love to eat. I clean because I love the smell of a nice clean house. I walk the dog because nothing's better for the soul than a happy dog tail! When I work, even if it's a lame job, I find something to love about it, whether it's the location, my co-workers, the experience I'm getting or what I'm doing.

I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in life after death. I think that this is our one shot, and the only way to achieve anything resembling immortality is to impact the lives of others. My goal is to touch as many peoples' lives as I can in a positive way.

I'm in a rut. Right now I'm stuck in a 60-70 hour a week job that screws me out of overtime, keeps me from home and friends, and drains me physically and emotionally. I can't buy or do anything fun because all my extra money is being thrown into savings in case we move this summer. The house is a constant mess, I don't have the time to hit the gym like I want to, and just sitting down and watching a movie is too time consuming.

I'm in autonomous mode. I'm a machine right now, just doing well enough to not get yelled at. I can't quit my job because while I am not getting paid what I work for, I am still getting paid more than I would getting a new job, especially one with less hours. Not to mention, we're living paycheck to paycheck anyway so I can't take a pay cut. My girlfriend has her teaching certificate and if she gets a job outside of town, we're up and moving in 3 months, so I don't have time to find and settle a new career.

So why do I do it?

I do it knowing that things can only get better. If we don't move, I'll take a different job and sludge through the bills somehow. I'll still be broke, but I'll be happier. If we do move, she'll have a decent job and I could afford one with a pay cut. Once we settle down and catch up financially, I could go to wrestling school and the gym as I so badly want to.

Also, I'm agnostic and I don't really know what's waiting for us on the other side. I'm not ready to jump in and find out, nor do I believe anyone here knows the correct answer, so I'm going to take this life I have and use it as I see fit. I don't want to look back and feel like I've wasted it. Right now I'm all about surviving until our circumstances change; and if they don't, I'll force them to.

I keep getting up and going everyday with the belief that I have this one life , this one chance at living whether things are good or bad. I don't want to be at the end of my life and think "What if?" I want to say that " i did my best and no matter what it at least was a hell of a ride."

(although sometimes i feel like there is no point, but everyday i find something new, like friends, good music, or my dog haha)

christina answered Sunday May 31 2009, 4:56 am:
I wake up for my future.

If I had done some of the things I've wanted to do a few years ago, I'd have been dead for a while now. I got help, and am still getting help. I kept going. My future is what I'm excited about. I want to have a career, and have children. I want to get married, and live my life to the fullest ability. Had I commited suicide, I obviously wouldn't be able to do the things I'm doing.

Life is most definitely worth it. It may seem horrible now, but I promise if you stick around, things will change. You just need to be willing to help yourself and change. See a therapist, talk to people. Life can get better if you make it that way.

Darby answered Sunday May 31 2009, 12:30 am:
Life is what you make it.

It's an annoying quote, but it's completely true. If you have a pessimistic outlook, life is going to suck. Not everything is perfect and it's okay to let yourself wallow sometimes. The problem starts when the wallowing doesn't end.

You have to make life worth it. To answer your last question truthfully, no, life isn't worth it unless you make an effort to find people and things that you care enough about to make life worth it, despite the bad times.

The main thing that keeps me going is writing. I am constantly writing. It's probably becoming a health hazard, I do it so much. There is nothing in the world greater to me than a blank piece of paper and a pen.

You have to find things that you have real passion for. Whether it's sports, drawing, painting, photography, writing, music, dancing, sports, etc.. Anything works as long as you have a real passion for it (and it's not bad for you).

Life does suck at times, but you have to take everything with a grain of salt and count your blessings even when things aren't going the way you would like them to. Everything gets better eventually, unless you give up on yourself. Just give it time and try to stay positive.

this is my thought here, im going to give you my full out opinion: the only reason i get up in the morning and try in life is because i dont want to disappoint my parents. and because, according to my religious belief, if i kill myself, i go to hell. otherwise, i wouldnt be here answering this.

everyone hates life, on the inside. no matter how much they throw it out of their minds and bury it, they really truly hate it. most christians keep going, believing that once their life is over, they will go to heaven and live an eternal life with God. im one of those people, but i dont necessarily serve God with the life im living. i believe in him, and the only thing keeping me going is the hope that one day, ill be out of this hell. and thats most peoples view points.

im not trying to shove anything down your throat, im just giving you an answer.

and the answer to your question? no, life really isn't worth it unless you believe in something. do you have a religion? does it say what happens and where you go when you die? because most peoples religions are the base around their messed up lives. they hope there is something waiting for them after their tough journey in life, maybe you should find yours. maybe theres a calling for you.

you're very smart for asking this, yes bad things happen. its not in anyones hands, except whomever you believe in/follow.

i hope you get an idea of what im trying to say here, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

i hope things get better for you. good luck :)
