Some things I thought of for an 80s style room would be to get some big canvases, paint them black and splatter neon paint onto them, then hang them on the wall. My cousin got some old record albums (if you don't have any, thrift stores will have tons for cheap) and tacked them along the top edge of her wall. You could do that if you want to. Maybe go to a store and get some old vintage music posters from the eighties... The rubics cube idea was a great one... for a color scheme you could go for neon colors like hot pink, lime green, or bright orange... although i don't suggest painting those colors on the wall (they're hard to paint over). Have fun with your new 80s room! [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
mrsknowledge answered Thursday July 1 2004, 10:57 am: Great theme! Keep it simple and affordable by sticking with liitle things from the 80's that you can find now in stores. The good thing is it's all coming back in style now so it will be easy.
Go to your local gift shop and purcase a rubicks cube key chain to use as a pull chain for a lamp or ceiling fan, by simple frames and frame sheet music from your favorite songs from the 80's (go on the web and look for lyrics in sheet form).
Hope this gets you started!

notnormal answered Saturday April 10 2004, 4:32 pm: This is not going to be easy, because there are not a lot of websites and books out there specifically about decorating bedrooms in 1980's fashion. First start searching the internet, put things like "1980's decor" or "decorator magazines 1980's" in various search engines then follow any links that look interesting. Most of the vintage websites have a very few "1980's" theme items, and they are usually toys, or related to TV shows. You could also try to locate very old magazines in library archives.
I think it would be a lot simpler to just start visiting thrift stores and looking at old furniture, fabrics, etc. Find what appeals to you, then make your bedroom more "eclectic," but loosely patterned around the 80's. [ notnormal's advice column | Ask notnormal A Question ]

DruidX answered Saturday April 10 2004, 8:55 am: I would reccomend your local newsagent for home styling magazines [be aware, they can cost quite a bit, so look through them before you buy] or the libary. There should be loads books relating to 80's styles and fasions. You may not find anything directly pertaining to room styles but you can always draw insparation from what you do find.
