I was at a friends house and I was playing on her brothers skateboard. Stupidly I was wearing sandals and I fell. I hurt my toe and it looks fine but it hurts when I walk and it looks a bit swollen. I'm not sure if I broke it, fractured it, or just stubbed it really bad but I would appreciate any suggestions that would make the healing process faster!

Wear comfortable shoes, limp if it hurts. I personally don't like splints, but it might be a good idea. Splints basically keep you from bending it, and it probably hurts when you bend it. It'll be bruised for a while, but don't worry too much. You probably just stubbed it really bad, like I did.
(By the way, if you want to know how I stubbed mine- I was playing blindman's bluff, and I ran headfirst into a pole at full speed. My toe hit it head-on. Actually, so did my head.) [ tigrennatenn's advice column | Ask tigrennatenn A Question ]
jbdreamer answered Monday April 5 2004, 12:26 pm: Even if you broke your toe there is really not anything a doctor can do about it. So just put ice on it if it is starting to swell. A bag of frozen peas works great! And try to wear open toe shoes so you don't put any pressure on it. It should be fine in a couple of weeks! [ jbdreamer's advice column | Ask jbdreamer A Question ]

adviceforteens answered Sunday April 4 2004, 11:26 pm: Take some ice and hold on there. Or you can take an ace bandage( you can find them at a local drugstore) and wrap it around your foot keeping your toe securely against your foot. If that still doesn't take the pain away wait about 1 to 2 days and then go to the hospital to get it looked at. Try not to put presure on it unless you absalutly have to. Hope you feel better. Cspinoza1 answered Sunday April 4 2004, 10:30 pm: Just ice your toe for 30 min and then put a heated cloth on it for 10 min and that should help the pain go away and reduce any future swolleness.
notnormal answered Sunday April 4 2004, 9:25 pm: If you broke it, it would probably hurt enough for you to want to go to the doctor. With broken toes, they usually just tape them to the next one and give you pain killers, but anyway, I doubt if you broke it.
For things like sprains the best thing is to keep it up. Whenever you can sit down and put it on a foot stool, or up on a sofa on pillows. Ice actually may make it feel better. It takes down swelling. You can also try aspirin or ibuprofen (advil or motrin) if you are over 15 and it is ok with your parents (read the box on how much to take.) In any case it should be better in within 2 or 3 days. [ notnormal's advice column | Ask notnormal A Question ]
Lizzy answered Sunday April 4 2004, 8:52 pm: You probably need some sort of medicine like ICY HOT which will make the muscles feel better. Don't put ice on it otherwise it'll tighten and hurt more. Hope it gets better
