could mean anything, take it to your mechanic so he can put it up on the computer and pin piont the problem ]
it means theres sumthin wrong with the engine so just take it in to a shop and get it fixed ]
this could mean ur battery is fucked up ]
the 'check engine' light is the standard warning light that is turned on when something is not working at full capacity in your engine block. the fact that your car isn't a manual means nothing. if it did, than no automatic cars would have check engine lights. just take your car in for an inspection and tell the mechanic to really look at your engine and the spark plugs. ]
You have to get the code checked. If you go to a mechanic you can be sure that they will charge you but if you live in the states you can head over to any AutoZone and they should check the code for you free of charge. ]
You have to take it to a mechanic with the ablity to hook it up to a computer and read the code to tell why the light is on. Like spacefem said, you can drive it like that for a while, but it can eventually cause damage depending on what the problem is. ]
Check engine can mean all sorts of things... some random sensor went out, there's some engine parameter off. You can't tell with a manual, you have to have an engine diagnostic performed to read your car's computer. Call around to some auto parts stores like autozone or o'rileys or whatever and ask if they'll do a diagnostic and for how much. Sometimes one of those places will have a special and do it for $20 or even free, but call 4-5 places to check it out. Either way, you can drive your car with the check engine light on but I wouldn't do it for very long. ]
Actually my fiance has a Corsica, and the Check Engine light appears to be broken--it's on all the time. :)
It could be a wonky transmission or exhaust system. When did you last have a tuneup? Try changing the oil and giving it a basic checkup, then take it to the shop if you notice anything odd in the noises, brake responsiveness, feeling when you push the gas, or vibrations that you're used to. The easiest way to tell if it needs help is by driving it enough to feel when something is a little bit off. ]
YOU NEED TO TAKE IT AND HAVE SOMEONE TO CHECK IT OUT BECAUSE THE LIGHT COULD ME SEVERAL DIFFERENT THINGS.BUT YOU SHOULDN'T WORK ON TI YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU CAN MESS ITB UP WORSE. ]
