I'm a feminist but none of the women in my family seem to be I'm a feminist but none of the women in my family seem to be catching on. My grandmother says I don't wear enough dresses and my mother thinks all the women's literature I read is worthless. What's wrong with these people?

Technically, there's nothing wrong with them. I applaud you being a feminist, and support it, but if your grandmother and mother don't agree, there's not much you can do. You could do as spacefem does, or just drop it. I'm a feminist, but no one else in my family is. I know it can be annoying, but sometimes you just have to accept it and do your thing. Perhaps they're happy with the way things are, if they are, then you shouldn't try to change them. They might not be as happy as feminists. Let them decide what they think, and don't try to push this on them. ]
Well, maybe they're just a little old fasioned. I'm a feminist too and I live with a bunch of guys. I don't really have anybody to talk to about those kind of things. Maybe your mom and grandmother don't agree with you because they're happy the way things are. All people are different. Talk to them. Tell your grandmother that the reason you don't wear dresses is that you just plain out don't like them. That you prefer to be more informal. ]
sounds like my house...grandparents telling me i should wear more make-up, mother telling me i should care about how i look and that the couple feminist books i have look, odd...though my mother is a bit more accepting, she wanted to read one of them later, for information's sake...aw but i babble, sorry
i'd say, they're just...i dont know...sort of back a few decades...i'd say there isn't much u can do, you can't change them, sure u can try but it's been my experience that u can't change ppl that drastically...i'd say you sorta have to live through it until u leave home, though then i'm sure it wont end...but at least u wont be faced with it every day...seriously, if ya need someone to complain with you can definatly email me or try me on yahoo...:) ]
I don't know. It happens and it's sad, but sometimes all you can do is be happy you escaped the intellectual void these poor women are trapped in. Then, if you want, try to show them the way! Leave books and magazines laying around, maybe they'll just take the bait. When they yell at you for not wearing dresses, ask if they honestly think dresses are comfortable and practical. They can't say yes! Fish out aspects of their lives they aren't happy with and use them as examples of how your life will be better because you are a feminist. Stand your ground! It's hard to change people, sometimes impossible, but if you serves as a positive example they'll love you for it. ]
