hi i saw your column and thought you could help me...i like a kid at my school he's really awesome..we're best friends so we hang out all the time...i love being friends with him but i would realy like to be more..all my friends are telling me he likes me..even people who aren't my friends..teachers at our school and even random people think we are going out..but the problem is..he has a girlfriend...i am pretty sure he likes me and he told his friends he likes me but he won't break up with his girlfriend for me...i'm not exactly sure what i'm asking...i guess i'm not sure if i should tell him i like him or not...i know he won't break up with is girlfriend..but he told his friend that if they do break up he's going to ask me out...i like him a lot.and his girlfriend is getting mad at him because me and him hang out so much..him and his girlfriend have also been on and off a lot so i don't think they'll last very long..sorry this is really long..i don't want to tell him and then ruin are friendship but i'm afraid if i don't tell him then if he breaks up with his girlfriend he won't ask me out...i'm so confused...please help

I totally know where you're coming from to start off with. I had a best friend, named Charles, and we were best friends from 2nd grade, onwards through present. =] Everyone that saw us together thought that we were the cutest couple & we weren't even dating. Does this kid know that you like him more as a boyfriend then a best friend? If not, you should definitely tell him, whether he has a girlfriend or not. He has a right to know. The problem with Charles & I was that I never told him until about 6 months ago, but unfortunetly I moved away, so we never had an opportunity of being together. Of course I regret it now, but there are plenty of other fish in the sea. And I don't think Charles & I were meant to be together in the first place, because I found someone new.
I think that's really cool that you found someone like your best friend. But try not to get in between his & his current girlfriends relationship. Although he says he'll date you, are you 100% sure? If you are, then you should take a chance & definitely tell him. He maybe in love with you, but is just afraid to tell you because he has a girlfriend, and is afraid that you might not like him back & he doesn't want to ruin the relationship, you know? Basically the feelings you're having. =] You might as well break the ice. Good luck!
