advice
im 14m and my doctor told me i need to increase my physical activitys because im at risk of having high blood pressure. swimming was working out but because it's aguast that's only gonna last me 2 or 3 more weeks. and i hate exercising because it's boring and i always get tired and feel bad about my self and when im in the pool i have fun and don't get tired or sweat and it isn't boring and i hear that in high school you get alot of homework so i don't know how im gonna find the time to please my teacher and my doctor at the same time

i have sort of the same problem. i'm 15/f. it usually helps me to keep exercising regularly when i listen to music when i exercise (i do crunches and run on a treadmill usually). i also like to watch tv. set small goals for yourself... like, when you're swimming, put a cd player by the edge of the pool and turn your favorite CD up LOUD and just say, "okay, by the end of this song, i'll have so many laps swum" or whatever. but really, i would seriously recommend listening to music because it really gets you pumped up. and also, exercising gives you more energy for other stuff, like school work. so even though you may get tired, you're actually more alert in school and stuff. it really helps me to jog for like an hour the night before a big test or something. it takes my mind off of things a little. anyway, good luck!

how do you guys get your summer reading done? the library has a hold list of books &

do you just buy the book? i dont like to since i might not like the book or reread it ever again.
i just buy the book. it's only like 8 bucks, and if the book sucks then i can take it back or sell it to a used book store. you can probably even get it at a used book store and then you're not losing that much money. and if you do buy the book and it sucks and you can't get rid of it, you can always sell it the next year to one of the kids that are younger that have to read that book for summer reading.
Well, I'll just let you know what's going on, then I'll tell you the story:
I just started going to a new school last week and met some people. Two of my best friends at that school are named Ginger and Jeff. They used to be boyfriend and girlfriend, but aren't anymore. Ginger still kinda likes him, and Jeff told me that he kinda likes Ginger. I like Jeff, but no ones know.
Well,
At lunch today, Jeff came & sat down by me, & we started talking. Then, this kid named Ralfie comes up & loudly yells "LAURIE [me], DO YOU LIKE JEFF?" & of course, I was like "No..." & Jeff was just sitting there, laughing a bit to himself. Ralfie yells again, "LAURIE!!! DO YOU LIKE JEFF???" & I was like "NOOO!!!" & as he was walking away, he yelled over his shoulder, "YALL SHOULD GO OUT!" I turned back around to Jeff, & he was just sitting there, kinda smiling. & All I said was, "That Ralfie kid is weird." & continued eating my lunch. I turn to where Ralphie & his friends are sitting, & hear "Jeff was probably like 'HELL NO' hahaha".
Then, this girl named Tiffany [who really likes jeff] calls me over to her side of the table & loudly asks "Do you like Jeff?? You can tell me!!" & I look over to Jeff, & he was looking directly at me - hearing the question. & Of course I said "No!!!." I went back over & sat with Jeff. We didn't say anything the rest of the lunch period.
Now, today [when all this happened] Ginger was absent, so she doesn't know about this. If me & Jeff were EVER to go out, I'm not sure how she would take it. So I have a few questions:
1. Does Jeff like me?
2. What did those boys mean by "Jeff was probably like 'HELL NO' "
3. What about Ginger? =[

1. i think jeff does like you. because he was smiling and not throwing a fit about the whole thing, it seems like he didn't disagree with what ralfie was saying (before the 'hell no' part)
2. i think that ralfie and his friends were talking either about if jeff likes you or if he would go out with you. ralfie and his friends seem like morons though, so don't pay attention to them.
3. if jeff likes ginger, then jeff likes ginger. but if he likes you and y'all go out with each other, then i think it would be polite to ask if it's ok with ginger. but right now, you don't really know what's going on so i'd wait it out if i were you. you might even want to try to talk to jeff about it, but if you don't then i'd wait it out and see what happens. usually, other people can tell who likes who... so i wouldn't be surprised if jeff likes you. anyway, i'd really just wait and see what happens. good luck and it sounds like jeff likes you :)
OMG!! OMG!!! I am SSSSSOOOOOOO scared! I go to a very nice private school in the mountains with fountains, a good principal, etc. Well, whenever I walk alone to a class to another building, I always see this man with a beard and old clothes staring right at me about 8 feet away. I sware... it's just me and him!!!! This started around April last year and I started school last week and he's still there (doing the same thing)!!!!!!!!! He can't work there, right? Because he doesn't do anything and he's too ratty looking to work at this school!! HELP ME!!! WHAT SOULD I DO!1????
tell your school officials, parents, any responsible adults. try to take a different route to that class. always stay with friends. if you have a cell phone, keep it with you (even if it's against school rules). get pepper spray to keep in your backpack. if he keeps doing this, call the police. if you see him, go the other way IMMEDIATELY. you don't know how messed up this guy could be, and it's better if you stay away from him. if he ever approaches you, SCREAM and RUN. but definitely make sure that you stay with a big group. my old middle school was creepy like that, and my mom told me to keep my phone in my backpack. she didn't allow me to walk outside by myself (to get to different classes, you had to walk outside which SUCKED). it's better to be safe than sorry. the best thing you can do right now is notify your teachers, principal, parents, police, friends, anybody about this weirdo. believe me, they'll take care of it. i actually had something like this happen when i was in australia with a group traveling from the united states and the adults in the group made sure that everything was taken care of. good luck with this, and stay safe.
Ok so i am taking school pictures tomorrow and i have blue eyes blonde hair and i want to wear a shirt that will make my eyes like really blue! would wearing a blue shirt make my eyes look more blue? or if not what color???

i'd go with blue. i also have blue eyes (but i have color contacts) and i wore a blue american eagle polo on picture day last year and when i got my pictures back my eyes were like BAM. it was really cool looking.

it means that they're crazy. it's like saying, "you're insane!" or "you're on drugs!"

it means like... hmm, i can't think of anything to explain it except when you're hanging out with your friends, and your mom comes up to you and is like, "honey, we need to go shopping for panties and bras." or whatever. she would be cramping your style. urbandictionary's definition is, "to embarrass someone or ruin their public image" but i use that phrase when somebody is getting on my nerves (ex: sally is always hanging around and rubbing peanut butter in my textbooks, she is totally cramping my style). hope i helped! haha :)
what does the school do if they found out that you skipped a class or something??
it depends for different schools. like, they would probably call parents and give you like a week's after-school detention. my school is weird about stuff like that (like, if you're late to a class by five seconds or something you get lunch detention).
I am wondering what some good mood songs are? I'm not a real artsy, deep and into the moment kind of person, but when I'm calm or sad I like listening to soft music. Different languages are good too. What are some perferable and relaxing songs (like Dido and Enya etc.)?

okay, in guys the first thing i notice is confidence. i don't want to hang out with a guy that looks uncomfortable and lost all the time. and i also like when guys are comfortable just being friends with everybody. i have a few guy friends that hang out with all the groups in the school. like, one of them is a football player and has lots of jock friends but is also on the math/science team and stuff. i'm a girl so i don't really notice much in girls, but i think that confidence and a willingness to accomodate people is something that stands out to me. for example, it really makes me feel welcome when somebody says, "hi, i've never met you before, what's your name?" when i'm standing there instead of just looking me up and down and then making a face to other friends.
I been dancing for about 7 or 8 years. But im scared to try out for dance company, because the fact not making it, it kills me! Should i try out? Or should i not try out so it doesnt hurt mee
you should definitely try out. dancing is obviously your talent, and even if you think you aren't good enough for this dance company, you still deserve the chance to show off! i have the same problem- music is my talent, so i'm going to try out for jazz band at school this year. but all of the kids in jazz band are 4 years older than me and ten times better than me. however, if i do make it, it will be really cool. the same thing goes for dance. if you do make it, it will be really cool. but, if you don't make it, there's always next year, right? i didn't make jazz band last year, but this year i feel way more prepared. you would be hurting yourself by not trying out because you would never know if you would have made it or not. so go ahead and try out! all the other people trying out are probably more nervous than you are. good luck :)
Hey I recently asked a question about banks acocunts.
So i was wondering, if I did decide to use Chevy Chase Bank, could i get a Visa credit card, or would it HAVE to be a chevy chase bank card?
like the other columnists have said, it would say the name of your bank but would work like a visa or mastercard. there are some debit/credit cards that are discover, but some atms and stores and restaurants don't take discover. for example, my debit card is hooked up to my parents' bank account and says the name of their bank (city national) but it is actually a visa card. the same goes for bank one and other banks. it will say the name of the bank but will actually be the same as a visa or mastercard.
i go to day camp and there's this kid named zach. and i think i really like him. like, i keep thinking about him and how nice he is and how cool he is. i even had a dream about him, and this is sorta creeping me out because i'm 15 and he's as old as my 13 YEAR OLD SISTER. now, i know it's not normal for a 15 year old to like a younger guy, i mean at this age, usually 15 year old girls want to go out with 17 year olds, not 13 year olds! i mean when i was 13 i couldn't even imagine dating an 11-year old. another thing: i don't really find this kid that cute or anything (okay, yes i do. he's cute. but it's just creeping me out that i like him.) everything he does is cute..even weird stuff. so yeah. it's really awkward to like him. i talk to him a lot and we like do this weird thing, where we'll be far away and he'll stare at me and i'll stare at him, and we'll just be sitting there staring at eachother for like a few minutes and then our friends are like...uhh, are you okay?? so i'm really like mad at myself -- am i being perverted for liking this kid or something?? please help! sorry so long.
no, this isn't perverted at all! and at least you know that he isn't going to use you or anything. it would be different for you to like, say, a 25 year old guy... but this seems perfectly fine. and it seems like he likes you too. anyway, go for it. there's nothing wrong with it.
there's this "game" people play. i dunno what its called though which is what i wanna know. its where there are two people. one person puts their hand on the person's knee and moves it the other persons leg until that person says stop. and then they switch roles and sees who endured more. and the person who endured more ist he winner

one of the weird games my friends and i love to play doesn't have a name. it works best with a large group of people sitting in a circle. everybody sticks their arms out somewhat in front of them and puts their hands palms down in a circle. so you have a circle of hands, with everybody's fingers pointing toward the middle of the circle. then, you make it to where each person's hand is by somebody else's hand. for instance, your hands wouldn't be beside each other. so you would take your right hand and put it to the right of the person on your right's left hand, and take your left hand and put it to the left of the person on your left's right hand. this is kind of confusing but you end up with two other people's hands in between your own. then, somebody starts the game by moving their hand up and down. then, the hand next to that hand (you can go either left or right) will move. the idea is that your hands are spread apart and you have to pay attention to who is moving what hand. and you go around in a circle. but, if somebody moves their hand up and down TWICE, then it reverses and you go the other way. and if it's not your turn and you move your hand, you remove your hand from the circle and you'll only have one hand left. you do this until you have like two people left and then you can do like a thumb war or something random to see who the winner is. we played this on the last day of school at lunch and it was really fun!
im going in to my sophmore year and we got our schedules yesterday. last year i got in a big fight w/ one of my best guy friends, he blocked me on aim and swore hed never speak to me again (the fight was over something stupid that makes absolutely no sense so im not really mad at him) anyways, i was talking to some of my friends and they told me that hes in my chemestry class. what do i do? i have about 3 other friends that i kno of in that class so its not like ill be forced to speak to him but do you think i should say anything to him? or just let him stay mad at me. i hate that we arent talking weve known each other since 6th grade! thanks so much
here's my advice (i've had something happen like this before): just treat him like you would when he's not being a jerk. and if he doesn't want to talk to you, then screw him (not literally). most likely it will blow over... guys have like a five second memory span anyway. but just be friendly to him, and if he keeps you blocked on aim and doesn't want to talk to you, then you should sit him down and basically tell him that you want to be friends with him but you don't want to deal with his crap. anyway, just try to be friendly... because there is a chance that he will quit being so mad. and you're going to have to see him in chemistry at school every week so it's worth a shot, trying to stay friends with him. good luck :)
next year i'm going into high school. I was totally psyched when i finally relized that this was my last year of boring old middle school and in high school I can pick my own classes. But earlier today a friend said her big sister was in highschool and she said it was terrible. They stuff the samller kids in trash cans and put books on the lids to make sure they don't get out. And they prank all the new kids by throwing eggs and water ballons at them. Is/was your hs that bad??????? thanks in advance.
i read your additional info and everything and i know i won't get rated, but i just wanted to add that at my high school (i'm a freshman "fish", as they call us) most of the mean upperclassmen don't talk to the freshmen, and the nice ones talk to us and are friends with us. when the mean upperclassmen talk to us, the nice upperclassmen stick up for us. but most of the time i just tell the upperclassmen to shove it because they're joking anyway. anyway, good luck and have fun :)
okay. i am 5'8". do you think that is too tall for some guys. the guys that are about my height. i mean. i would prefer a taller guy. but it doesnt really matter. are taller girls a turn off for guys?
no. i have two friends that are a couple and they're both around 5'8" or 5'9" and it's not a problem for them. actually, they're really cute together. anyway, no. they don't really care about height, as long as they're not like 10 inches shorter than you are. and that's not very common. in reality, all guys differ, but most of them don't care how tall/short a girl is.
Hey I am going to be a freshman and I just want to know like the basics of like what goes on, how hard the work is, how to make new friends, what to stay away from, etc. lol. Also like how can I make a good impression on the first day of school, and like yeah. Basically anything you can think of. Thanks! :]
this is how it is at my school (i am also going to be a freshman and just got back from band camp with the high school band of 200+ people and i made a lot of upperclassmen friends so this might help). you will get picked on. seniors do use seniority. they do cut in line. there's nothing you can do about it except let them. don't argue with them, but if they start harrassing you then tell a teacher. the work depends on the classes you're taking, but it shouldn't be that much harder if you don't have much trouble with school. you have to act confident. don't wait for people to approach you when you make new friends. just go up to them and tell them your name. i met so many people this past four days by doing that. stay away from older guys that you don't know yet. somebody told me that freshmen should not get involved with older guys unless they know them well. i mean, it's okay to be friends with them, but don't go out with one until you've known him for quite a while and know his intentions. to make a good first impression, be confident. don't look lost or scared or confused. if you screw up or can't find your classroom or something, then just laugh at yourself and ask somebody what's going on. if you can handle laughing at yourself and being the lowest on the totem pole, then you'll do okay. i certainly made a lot of new friends this week that way!

you could take your debit/credit card to california (or wherever) and just get money out of an atm. yes, all atms SHOULD work with all credit/debit cards. as a matter of fact, i traveled to australia for three weeks with a visa debit card that withdrew from my parents' checking account and never had a single problem with an atm there.
