about

Hii. :]

I'm a 17 year old girl from the East Coast of the United States.

Although i'm young, i've been through my share of problems.

I'm not going to tell you I can answer any question, but I'll certainly try.

I don't judge people because of the fact that I don't like to be judged myself.

I'm generally a nice person, but if you give me attitude, you won't be happy with my response.

I love listening to music, etc.

I have a job & have volunteered before,

I've been through drivers ed & have my license + a car,

I'm going to be a senior next year so I can help you with high school experiences.

All in all, i'll try to help you no matter what.

I also tend to reference websites when giving my answers because then I have proof that my advice is valid.

Anyways. I'd like to end this with my favorite quote [I dunno why it's my favorite quote, but yeah. :D]

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

advice

im trying to loose weight. i know i have to eat healthy and all that stuff. so i dont need a lecture on that. does running or walking up and down stairs a few times help?

thanks!

Yess.
Running is one of the best things you can do to lose weight. Don't just run up and down the stairs though or else it'll take forever to lose the weight. Run around your neighborhood or park a few times. I'm sure running/walking up and down stairs a few times might help a bit, but it would take a really long time to lose weight from it.

Good luckk. :]

okay!!! theres this guy right. i kissed him around christmas time. like we kissed or like 4 hours. he was going to this private school in missouri and he moved back at the end of may. he is my bestfriends brother and he has a girlfriend. anyway he started calling me recently. we only talk like friends. like i dont plan on hooking up with him or anything. but the phone calls have started to get kind of silent. like what are some good things to talk about?

thanks ahead of time...

If you just wanna be friends with him, then talk to him about things you talk to your regular friends about. Ask him how he is, simple things like that. Ask him what his private school was like, and talk to him about school. If either of you has a job, talk about those. If you're having a problem with anything, talk to him about it. Tell him about any vacations you have planned for this summer. Talk to him about the weather. [I know that sounds old fashioned, but try it.] Tell him some weird jokes you've heard lately. Just tell him things you'd tell any normal friend.

Ok i have went through alot of stuff lately in my family..divorce..affairs and a drug addict sister. I am going to be a senior this year and i have survived my vball team for the past 3 years. I hate volleyball..dont like practices..games..nothign..but i do it because its a sport and my parents want me too. Well this year..i dont want to go through another season..my mom says i should go through with it..im not sure what do..what do you think?

If you don't like volleyball, then drop the sport. I'm sure three years is enough of one sport. After all your family problems though, don't just quit all sports. Try to see what you did like about volleyball. If you liked the running part, then try track. Just try another sport and see how it goes.

Good luck with whatever you do.

at night i get really scared to sleep. i always think i hear noises and i cry and shake. i dont know what to do i've been having this prob my whole life. im 13 btw. does anyone have any tips i can do. i have those night time soundtracks but they dont really work and i always get scared to listen to them considering i think someone might be in my house!! PLEASE HELP ME=[

I used to be somewhat like that. I would think someone was going to come through my window or something. What helped me was to leave my blinds open so that I could see what was going on outside my window at all times and wouldn't have to worry about it. I also would keep my door open so that if I ever had to call out for help, someone would come help me.

Another thing to remember, if there's some member of your family still downstairs at the time, or if your room isn't closest to the stairs/outside door, is that the person who's coming to hurt you would HAVE TO go through that person first, and you'd hear that if it happened. That would be your warning.

Thinking of those always helped me feel better. :] Just don't worry about it, noones broken into my house and it doesn't usually happen to people.

Im 16 and my dad died when i was 8 and my mom recently got married to a guy who used to be in the army. I have two sister and now i have 3 step brothers. He is like way strict and his kids are like perfect angels but me and my sisters have never really been raised that strict and for lack of better words are pretty wild. my mom never really punished us for things( ive never been grounded and ive never had a curfew and my mom knows and stilll doesnt care that my sisters and i are big partiers) and now this guy is trying to control us and take over our lives. What should i do?

You should stick up to him and compromise. Tell him that you're not used to having so many rules and you don't think it's fair that you have to face all of them. Ask him if you can compromise so that you're both happy. Almost all kids get punished when they do something wrong, so just go along with that. Don't even bother fighting about it. But for things such as a curfew, set one that satisfies both you AND your stepdad.

Good luck with that.

what do you think of sophomore year? i heard its harder than the freshman year whats the diffrence between freshman year and sophomore year? which one do you think it was better?

For me, freshman year was harder than sophomore year. Teachers are nicer in some aspects because they excuse you if you get lost or miss homework in the beginning but I think the work of sophomore year is easier.

I think it varies for different schools though. Sophomore year is easier to concentrate because you know the school better, the kids better, and the basic environment.

Good luck and have funn as a sophomore. :]

Tomorrow I'll be starting my first day volunteering at a hospital. Most of the patients are elderly. I was wondering what I should talk to them about. I'm terrible at talking to adults as it begins with, so I'm a bit nervous as to what I should say to the patients. I do know senior citizens enjoy talking about their life, so I will ask them about that, but what else should I say? I don't think I really want to talk about my life, so what are other good conversations I can have? Thanks in advance.

I used to volunteer at a hospital. =]

I thought it was a lot of fun. You can judge by the patient whether or not they'd like to talk to you or not. If they seem crabby, don't bother saying much. Always remember to say Hi and smile because that makes them smile.

I talked to my patients about things such as the weather outside and just simple basic things like that. If they were getting "discharged" [leaving the hospital], I'd say something like "oh, happy to be going home? :]' and they liked that question. :P

You don't get much time to talk to them so just use basic things like those. Don't worry so much about it because almost all the patients I had were elderly too and are willing to talk about anything, sometimes starting their own conversations with you. :]

Havee fuuunnn. It really is fun. :]

what letters of recommendation do you need for johns hopkins university?

If this it the college you're looking for, here is a site that tells you about the Letters of Recommendation.

http://www.grad.jhu.edu/admissions/letters.htm

Other than that, noone except the people who actually go to that school would be able to tell you.
Just get teachers and your guidance counselor to write you a letter of recommendation and i'm sure that'll be enough.

I'm not sure if its the way my hair is or if I'm not using the right product or because I wear hats while my hair is wet sometimes.
The problem is I'll go take a shower, shampoo, condition my hair usin Pantene Pro V Always Smooth (aka Smooth and Sleek), and then I'll let my hair dry, and it comes out soo unbelevably frizzy, and bushy and all wavy in all different directions. My hair is kind of long (its about maybe 3 or 4 inches long, and I have bangs in the front which cover one eyebrow, they split at around the other eyebrow).

I don't use any hair product other than condition. I cant see why my hair comes out thsi frizzy. I do wear a hat to bed most nights of the week, sometimes while my hair is wet so it flattens the hair out otherwise I look absolutly horrible, like I jsut came out of a bus wreck.

Can anyone tell me if myhair is damaged, needs product, or just needs help...

Here's what I think you should do..

1) Get a new shampoo/conditioner, that one doesn't seem to be doing it's job.
2) Use one of those hair products that leave your hair smooth. I don't use them, but i'd suggest BioSilk. I heard it works great and leaves your hair smelling good. You only need to use a tiny bit though, don't use too much.
3) DON'T wear a hat while you sleep. I know that when i've worn hair elastics in my hair it's made it way worse than when I don't. Just stay away from the hats for a while.

Good luckk. :]

ESSAY: EXAMPLE brainstorm thread

Hey guys... Since I always have a TON of difficulty coming up with examples to use in the essay, I thought we could brainstorm some general ones together that can be used for different topics. (we did this in my prep class)

I always run out of time because I spend too much time thinking about what to write... I hope other people can benefit from this topic too! Hopefully once we get a good list I can compile and put it together in an easy-to-use format for each of us to have and review!

So, to start... I've usually been able to use To Kill a Mockingbird in my essays...

I took my SATs in May and had a hard time coming up with good examples too.

One of the best examples I found was Martin Luther King Jr. He works for many different essay topics. You could also look up some other people to learn more about them before you take the test. Pick books that have a lot of themes.
I'm not sure what you've read in school or what grade you're in or anything.
I'd say to use these..

- Martin Luther King Jr.
- Hitler.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_D._Roosevelt]
- The Scarlet Letter
- Grapes of Wrath
- Of Mice and Men

Or use things from one of the World Wars if you know them.

Just be sure to use at least two examples in your essay. They look for that when they grade. Also, examples can't be too important. I got a 7 on my essay and had very vague examples because I couldn't think of good ones for my question.

Sorry I couldn't help more. =/

I was wondering if it's a good idea to use movies as examples in the essay, as long as it fits the prompt you're writing about? Or should we stay away from movies and just stick with literary, historical, and personal experiences?

Depends on what kind of essay it is.

If it's an important one, such as an SAT essay, stick to historical examples. I remember in SAT prep they warned us about that. You should usually only put literary and historical examples in essays.

If the essay isn't that big of a deal then throw a movie example into it. It depends really on what the essay's for. You probably shouldn't only have movie example's though.

for recommenations, do we HAVE to ask teachers?

If it's a college reccomendation then no, you don't have to ask a teacher. If you aren't comfortable with that, then you can ask a guidance counselor. Those are the main people you should go to for one, though.

You could get one from a coach or boss if you have a job, but you always want one from your teacher or guidance counselor too.

FYI: I am a 20 year-old recent college grad. Both men I am referring to in this question are only slightly older than me and finishing their degrees.

"Joe" and I began dating 2 1/2 years ago. Our relationship was generally good when last summer (1 1/2 years in)he decided that he didn't want a serious girlfriend. Nothing mean or ugly, he was just being honest. I tried all summer to change his mind but finally gave. (We remained close friends.)

After dating around for a little while, I began seeing "Michael". Our relationship was somewhat rocky because we had both come out of relationships and he had been hurt many times before. During this time, Joe began to develop interest in having a relationship. I thought it over and eventually decided to try things again with Joe. (I stayed in close contact with Michael.)

Joe and I have a really easygoing relationship, but he refuses to discuss a more serious commitment. When we discuss it, he says he doesn't see us going in that direction at this point but is always careful to avoid losing me entirely. In the past few months, Michael has attempted to see other people to no avail. He is convinced that I am the only one for him. We have been getting along beatuifully, and Michael has done everything he to prove to me that we belong together. (Both are fully aware of each other and the current status.)

Michael wants me to leave Joe and become engaged to him. (He's even looking at rings.) I am seriously considering this. I love both men very much (in somewhat different ways) and could she myself happily married to either (in 2-5 years). The difference here is that Michael is willing to commit and Joe is not. Both have treated me very well; although Michael is romantic (flowers) while Joe is considerate (fixs my car). Is there any point in continuing to wait for Joe or should I leave him and accept the proposal from Micheal?

I personally think you should go with Michael. He seems to love you a lot and you love him so I don't see the problem. He's ready to commit and it seems like that's what you really need right now.

Joe on the other hand doesn't seem like he will be ready for marriage soon. If you really love Michael, go with him. It seems like Joe just wants to be selfish and keep you to himself, and Michael seems like a genuinely nice guy.

:]
Good luck!

i cant load my pic on this site it wont let me. it says the file is too big. can someone tell me or help me explain the steps to get it to work? i tried bunch of pics. all say the same thing!

I have a site for you. =]

http://www.irfanview.com/

Go to that and download that program. It's really small and works very well. Get your pictures and follow my steps..

1. Open up IrfanView
2. Go to Edit, then Paste
3. Then go to Image, and scroll down the list until you get to Resize.
4. Change the Width and the Height and try the picture again.

If that doesnt work, keep trying smaller sizes until it DOES work.

Good luck and I hope that helped.

Here's my issue... I work at Subway and this guy in his mid-twenties came in. After making his sub he wanted dressing on it. So I put some on. then he started literally YELLING saying and I quote " think you put enough vinegar on that". "your so childish" "why don't you just put it in a bowl!"
he yelled it at me rudely. I almost started crying at the moment. I offered him a new sub and no charge he just denied and kept saying those remarks to me. I can't get what he said out of my head. it really hurt my feelings. and the thing is, that I didn't even put a lot of dressing on his sub.He really over-reacted..I'm just upset, over nothing I know. But he crossed the line of resepct. And any tips on how to forget about it. thanks. =(

Don't worry. This kind of thing can happen anywhere. On my first day of work a customer was wicked mean to me and I almost cried too. Just think of the nice customer's you've had and try not to get that one again.

I'm sure he was just having a bad day and taking it out on you, seeing as he knew you wouldn't fight back. Don't take it personally and just remember to focus on any compliments you've gotten about your work or accomplishments you've made with it. :]

You'll forget soon enough. I basically forgot about my rude customer until I read this. =P
