I'm a senior in high school and part of a requirement to graduate is a project in which I have to have 15 hours with a mentor. The mentor I chose was my mothers boss. She's always been friendly and she agreed to do it. Unfortunately for me, my mother found employment with another company and quit yesterday (Monday). Her boss wasn't happy. The company is attemptig to refuse to pay my mother money owed to her, they're all in a big fight. Her former boss signed a "contract" in order to be my mentor and agreed to continue meeting with me becuase she doesn't back down from a committment. This puts me in a really difficult place. I still plan on meeting her and whatnot, but I'm not sure how to act. I want to be polite. I also know that she'll ask me questions about my mother and the family and I'm not sure how to go with it. I'm only 16 (17 soon) and it's just a really awkward position.
My parents and mentor are currently fighting, I have to spend another 10 hours with her. I'm just not sure what to say when I get there. I don't want to be too cordial and stiff, I also don't want to be too personal. Our next meeting isn't until October 26th so I have plenty of time to figure out what I want to say and how to act. Once I break the ice after this first meeting I'm sure the meeting after will go smoothly. I just don't want to be uncomfortable this first time because if I can find comfort in the meeting the first time then I'll know how to behave all times afterwords. I know it's kind of confusing but I'm not sure how to word this.
Anyway, do you have any advice on how to greet my mothers former boss? It's just so complicated right now. I know I'll have to face adversity in life and this is a grand time to start. I don't want to back down and choose a new mentor when it's so close to the due date for the project. (The paper is due Nov. 2nd. The other things are due in the begining of December). Especially when I don't know anybody else who has enough experience on my topic to meet the mentor qualification requirements.

She shouldnt take this out on you, shes there to help you with something else. If it comes up just simply say "i dont think we should be talking about that, we have so much left to do!" (something kind of jokingly like that)

Me n the guy we hardly ever speak. Were so shy around eachother and he blushes like crazy when i'm around. Everyone says he likes me and the things he does around me kind of back it up. I like him too but if we hardly talk what can we do to take the next step? Were so shy we cant even sit together in class not one word not even a hi out of us 2. what should i do? I really don't want to make the move but if he cant should i?
The first thing you should do is talk to him.
If you cant think of any good conversation starters, try:
asking him about sports he plays
asking him about the homework
comment on a teacher or test to him
try ANYTHING to break the ice.
or drop your pen in class and ask him to pick it up.

I still have gym and I have a hard teacher this year as in she actually makes us do everything or will take off MAJOR points from our daily grades.
Well, I don't mind doing them except when I have my periods. I hate it because my mom absolutely refuses to let me wear tampons. And it's really uncomfortable with a pad on. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to handle gym with pads on?

You could always wear like spandex under armor over your underwear but under your shorts. It might make you feel less...awkward?

hey, 15/f. sophomore in Highschool.
So, I really liked this guy named Josh. He had asked me out last year, I said yes, then changed my mind. I felt horrible, believe me. This year I began to like him again, and told him. He stares at me in lunch a lot, and tries to catch my eye, and then some days, he just doesn't. He's also been kind of a jerk lately. I don't talk to him often.
Then, there is Duston. He's cute, sweet, funny. I like him a lot now, but part of my heart is still hung up on Josh. Anyways, Duston and I don't talk often either, but when we do, he's SO nice. And I actually invited him to my Halloween party, he thinks he can go for sure. Perfect, right? Wrong. My very good friend Cassie likes him as well... but her and I both agreed that he will like who he likes and that's it. We don't want to 'compete' for a guy, but it's still a bit unsteady between us because I'm afraid they'll be together and I'll be upset, or I'll be with him and SHE'LL be upset.
So what guy should I go with? What should I do?

I think its really mature for you and your friend to not compete for this guy Duston. You cant decide which of you he likes, but you can sway his mind. Hang out with him at your party, but not so much that cassie gets mad at you. You can also wait for him to find you, after all, its YOUR party.
I think you should see what happens after your party. If duston acts like he likes you, then you can go for him. But, as corny as it sounds, you need to let your heart decide.

You can be anything you want. A disney princess costume wouldnt be bad, you dont have to wear heels. A witch is good. Or dorothy from the wizard of oz. You can be ANYTHING, but you can modify to costume to make it more comfortable for you.

ok i've dealt with almost every type of person that exist on this plant and granted i have had people talk about me and all but no one dared say shit that would ruin my reputation or anything like that.
for some reason they all had respect for me even if they hated me. you know what i mean? and my friends? well they are really close to me.
i've read so many of your advices throughout this website and alot of it deals with bitchy girls in school making someone's life miserable....
thing is... the bitchiness comes from my sister. and even though she ratted me out to my parents and i am all clean now. she still seems to think she has power. i really really want to cantch he in the act of something... and draw the line and show her who's older you knw? she is being a little bitch and i really feel like slapping her sometimes.

hey everyone!!
Well i just recieved this project at school. Im in 8th grade, and im studying "the road to revolution". This time period includes events such as the Tea act, boston tea party, stamp act, ect..
Well, we are usually suppose to draw a road down the cented of it, and write the info along the side of the road, but this year my teacher has decided to let us be creative.
Im NOT creative at all!! She said do something like a gameboard theme, but doing a road down the center would be just fine as well.
I would like to do something a little different for extra credit points.
I was thinking about something along the lines of the song Life Is A Highway, by the Rascal Flatts. Since it kinda has to deal with roads, and i could put the info in street signs, and random pictures from the movie cars, since Life Is A Highway was freatured in that movie.
My second idea would be doing something along the lines of the Rockin' Rollercoaster. Its in Disneyworld fyi.. I would have the guitar neck as the road, and the street signs would flash the information...
But i really have no other ideas. I like mine enough, but not really...

You could also make a movie and have your friends help you act out things from different times in history. To make it creative, you can take the event and make it more modern, or make "subtle" references to it. For example, you could film a cooking show, and draw connections between what you are doing and how it relates to the revolution. Or you could just do the scenes exactly how they were.

I'm taking drivers ed & we need to complete a certain amount of hours on the road. Last time I went driving, my teacher yelled, cursed, got really mad at me for making a few mistakes, and really just scared me. I'm nervous when I drive to begin with so extra yelling isn't helping me. I came home shaking & started crying as soon as I got into the door. I think driving is full of pressure alone, so all of this extra stress isn't helping me. I don't know what to do. I still have quite a few hours to go before my test, but I doubt I'll even pass it now. What should I do?? Any advice/tips?? Thanks!

Maybe you can go to a different school. You have to complete the hours, no matter what. Just relax, youll be fine. But i suggest looking for a different teacher, one who is nicer.

ok im 13/f.
my boyfriend and i have been going out for a few weeks now, maybe 4 or 5 somewhere in that range, and the other day, we had a fight. he got mad at me because he said that i was making fun of him, and then he started to pass notes with this other girl. and it really made me pissed off!!!!.
and i told him to not pass notes with her, and he said " why not, were friends, were both in band"
and then he got mad because i got mad for him passing notes with her. all the note said was her asking him if he was mad at me. but it still made me really mad. and then i started to think that he was cheating on me with her. and then that made him even more mad, and he dosent even want to talk to me, and he said that he might break up with me. i dont want to go to school monday, and him break up with me. what do i do?!?!?!
You sort of had the right to be mad at your bf for passing notes with another girl, but you need to respect that he has other friends who are girls like you have friends that are guys.
Dont avoid the issue, go to school monday. apologize for what you did. if he breaks up with you, he breaks up with you. if he breaks up with you in front of everyone, hes just a jerk.
give him some space. i dont agree with that whole "take a break" thing, but you could always do that. or maybe you should break up with him.

my friends and i got in a huge fight over something so stupid.
hes deleted me off his myspace, off his instant messanger and everything. we were supposed to go to homecoming along with one other friend of ours but now i dont think he'll want to go if im there.
its gone so far and we've both hurt eachother it wasnt just one person doing it all.

You should call him or tell him in person that you are sorry for what happened, and you miss talking to him and hanging out with him. If he seems mad, dont talk about homecoming. But if he accepts it and apologizes back, start a conversation and bring up homecoming. hope this helps

For a senior class trip we are going to Grad night at Disney World in Florida. Anyway, the trip will be roughly $600 a person. As you can see, it's a pretty expensive trip. It's actually really good for all it includes (meals, bus, hotel, etc.)
Anyway, the students who are going need to come up with some fundraising ideas to help us lessen the price. Unlike with clubs and such we don't have any starting money. We need ideas where we can do things with nothing. (The school has NO money to start us out with and we don't want to risk losing money if the idea fails).
So, any suggestions would be really helpful.
We've come up with a car wash, but I live in NC and where I live there is a drought thing going on and there are water restrictions so it wouldn't be legal.
The trip is in April so if the restrictions are lifted by then we are going to do a teacher car wash or something along those lines.
Any other ideas? Remember, it has to be something we can do with no prior funds.
Oh boy, the trip sounds like a ton of fun!

I take German in school (I'm in 10th grade and started learning it in 7th) and I'm in the German exchange this year. I'm having an exchange student stay with me for 12 days in about 2 weeks. The nearness is scaring me! I think I'll be really shy and awkward with her. ?? And if I have a lot of homework or something what is she supposed to do? I just am starting to feel weird about it.
And I leave in late June to early July to go stay with her in Germany for 12 days then go with my classmates to tour the country for 8. I'm really scared mostly because of being away from my boyfriend. I know I can't predict the future but I will say I HOPE we will still be together then. I just worry about anything happening while I am gone.

Dont worry about awkwardness, you probably have a hundred questions to ask her. Its a learning experience, but you can still take time to show her around, take her shopping, stuff like that.

I like this guy lets call him "Phil"(random name). I have a crush on him, he's at my new school. He plays guitar, is short, but cute, he luvs the same music i do(fob, mcr, p!atd, and to top it all off my locker is right next to his and we sit next to eachother for every class because of the seating chart. So today he sits next to me and my friend Tori for lunch. He says I remind him of his ex girlfriend. Now, from what I know from talking to him, he only has had one girlfriend and she and him were together 3 weeks ago, but he asked her to go to homecomeing with him, she said no and she brokeup with him. He was evidently head-over-heels for her.
FYI: I have a short attention span. So i just hear him say creepy and point at me. So i turned my head and said 'What's wrong with me being creepy?' He threw his hands up in surrender and said "You're not creepy at all! I said it's just creepy how much you are like my ex-girlfriend"

Hmm, well if he never implied anything bad.
Now, im not a guy, but if he was IN LOVE with a girl who you remind him of, then it cant be a bad thing.
Ask him to the dance. You can just be like, hey are you going to the dance on friday (or whenever it is) If he says yeah, be like are you going with anyone? and if he says no be like we should go together.
If he says yeah and smiles and seems excited about it, he probably likes you.
Once he gets to know you better, he'll realize that you and his ex arent the same person.
