It has come to my attention that every class i've ever had related to health or mental health has covered, in detail, both bulemia and anorexia. But none of the classes has ever even mentioned self injury. These are all self destructive behaviors, and I think that if people had more information on them, they wouldnt be so quick to judge because they would know more about it. Have any of you ever talked about this in class before? Even in my psychology class as a freshmen in college it never came up.

I took a general psychology class [sophomore in college] last semester and we did not cover self injury, and we did have extensive discussions about anorexia and bulimia. I didn't even think about it while I had the class, but now that you mention it I agree that it should be something they cover along with other destructive behaviors. Maybe the next generation of psychologists and professors will see the impact self injury has and decide to teach more about it.

How do I take pictures where the subject is in focus and the background is a bit blurry? I know all about aperture and shutter speed, but I don't have an SLR, and my "manual" setting really only lets me adjust the shutter speed. I can use the macro setting to take close-ups where only the foreground is in focus, but that doesn't help when it comes to pictures of larger objects. Any ideas?

The reason you can't get a good DOF with larger objects is because your camera is already at the hyperfocal distance (or further) for the lens, meaning everything from that distance onward is in focus even if you adjust aperture. In order to get the blurred background, your subject has to be reasonably close to the camera while the background is further away.

An alternative is to use photoshop to blur the background of the picture yourself.

whats special about it?
like whats it do to thee picture?
im jsut wonderinq?

please&&thankyou. :)

Fisheye lenses are wide angle lenses that distort the image so it is curved and the closer the subject to the lens, the larger it appears as compared to farther subjects. In a way it mimics how a fish would view the world when looking through its fishbowl.

There are cheap fisheye cameras:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007ZGXO0

And expensive fisheye lenses:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-15mm-Fisheye-Lens-Cameras/dp/B00009R6WN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1234634259&sr=1-1

They add a dramatic effect to the picture. Fisheyes aren't practical for everyday use, but they are fun to whip out every once in a while.

In Missouri legal limit for window tint is any darkness on rear windows, rear passenger and driver windows. but limit is 35% on the front passenger and driver side window. and on the windshield any darkness on the visor.

my question is, how do people get away with 5% every where around? (except the windshield), or do they just get pulled over all the time for too dark of tint?

Every state is different, but cops will rarely pull you over just for having tinted windows, often if they pull you over it's for a different violation and then they see the tinted windows and tack that on too.
I read that in Missouri, you need to get a doctor's note with their printed name and signature, and your medical condition that would require tinted windows. Then take that note to the state police and they will accept or decline your request for legally tinted windows.
So if you're paranoid about getting caught, call up the state police and see what they say. If not, just hope they don't pull you over.

My xbox 360 got a 2 Red Light warning thing and found out it was due to overheating. I unplugged everything and let it cool for a day. After that, I turned it on and after 6 minutes it shows the same two red lights. I also touched the back and noticed it got warm pretty quickly. Is there a way to fix this? I searched all over the net and got stuff like send it to microsoft and they'll repair it for you but also read that it won't stop the problem completely, it just fixes your xbox a bit and then later on it will get 2 red lights again. Another one said you could repair yourself, I might wanna do that but I need detailed instructions on how. I Searched the net how and got all these advertisements on how to fix your 360 with this manual and video which costs like 40 dollars. I think I've seen somewhere the xbox 360 has a cooling device accessory? Will that do any good?

I would send it in to microsoft. The 360 has had a lot of problems but microsoft has been decent with extending warranties and fixing their problems. If you want to try a cheap solution before sending it in, I definitely recommend the Intercooler http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Nyko-Intercooler/dp/B000F5RW1U , you can get them anywhere xbox accessories are sold, and they're like 20 bucks, not a bad deal. It's three tiny fans and doesn't void the warranty because it's not permanent. Sometimes it can run loudly, but you don't need to keep it attached all the time.

When people have a black X on their hand, what does it mean? LIke this for example: http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/47/l_639e36177650433bb7b253c72081b658.jpg

It means they're straight edge. Unless they're just doing it because they think it looks scene or whatever, in which case they would be a tool.

This is a question for you drummers out there!

I just purchased a double bass pedal. Well not only can I get the timing right but I also get exhausted from using it!

Any tips are welcome.

Like doing certain exercises at the gym?

Start out doing a slow, constant beat, nothing faster than you can handle for a good long time. Double bass takes a lot of practice but when you build up endurance through starting out slow you can see fast progress. I've started doing leg muscle exercises at the gym, you know like the machines, can't say if it's actually helping yet though. So yeah, start out slow, very gradually increase your speed to nothing more than you can handle, you'll get faster with time.

For girls,

Where is the most attractive body part you think would be suitable for a tattoo on a guy?

forearm? biceps? shoulders? back? chest?

Depends on the tattoo, but mostly everywhere is attractive haha.
I really like them on the forearm though. Quarter sleeves look great from the shoulder area to the bicep. Tattoos look good on the back if you have a nice back. Lower abdomen is good too if you've got the right body. Clavicle area/the neck area is good, I love chest pieces, and they are easy to cover up.

But yeah, as long as the tattoo design is nice I think they look good anywhere, but I'm biased since I've got four tattoos myself :P.

so last night my friend and i were talking about dreams.
she saw this movie that like kind of eplained it to her.
more like a documentary but still.
she was saying that in your dreams, if you like realize you're in a dream you can stop and literally do whatever you want.
you can like turn the lightswitch or look at a clock.
and if the lights don't turn off or on, or on the clock, the numbers are just like jumbled up then you're in a dream.
she said she has done it only a little bit not a whole lot.
but people in the movie did it all the time.
like this one guy was like in my dreams, i fuck a lotta hot girls.
hahah.
but has anyone ever done this?
or have any advice on how to?

I think you mean lucid dreaming?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dreaming

A quick google search for "how to lucid dream" yields a lot of results. I can tell you from experience that it can be done, all you need to do is practice. Here's a site with a lot of info:

http://www.lucidity.com/LucidDreamingFAQ2.html

It's very interesting when you get it to work, you just have to 'train' yourself to lucid dream. Good luck :)

I'm a senior this year (woot woot!) and i have to do a project on the election. Me being only 17, i have no say in who our president will be for 4 years. One section of my project includes a survey. I have to briefly interview 40 individuals and record their choice for president and what they believe is the most important issue in the campaign. If you are 18+ would you mind answering those two questions? It would be very helpful. thanks =]
Jill

I'm voting for Obama.

The most important issue for me is the economy, more specifically unemployment rates and trouble finding loans.

Im a freshman in college and my boyfriend is a junior in high school. should we be together??

I was in the exact same situation last year. Stay together if you think it can work. If you're willing to and wanting to stay together, it will happen. Keep up good communication, visit when possible. It's difficult, but if you really want to be together then it can work.
If you feel like you don't want to stay together and you are questioning the relationship, then I would suggest to end it or take a break. It wouldn't be fair to you or your boyfriend if you aren't truly interested in keeping the relationship going.

I want to become a scene girl. I've seen scene girls and guys all over the place lately and I really like the style. My mom said she will take me to get a scene haircut and dye job soon if I really want to become a scene girl.

I want to be scene like Kiki Kannibal, Audrey Kitching (Twigg Violence), Dani Gore, Dakota Rose, Jac Vanek, Jesse Cupcake, Sarah SCream, Holly Horror, Hanna Beth, Zui Suicide, Raquel Reed, Dana Killer, Lizz Mohin, Sommer Ata, Tara Mason, Rainbow Kittie, Molly Steele, Danielle Fidelity, Clementine Suicide, Aida Kamikaze, Ashlee Lauren, Lindyfu, Alaina Beaton, Brittany Kramer, and even Lexi Lush.

I definately do not want to look like a drag scene queen though! I am a girl and I definately want to look like a girl and not like a boy-dressed-as-a-girl! So I want to steer away from the drag scene queen styles of Jeffree Star, Izzy Hilton, and Hilary Haywire.

Can anyone give me tips on how to become scene?
Should I start having people call me by a name that is more scene like some of the above mentioned (Hilary Haywire, Holly Horror, Sarah SCream, Kiki Kannibal, etc.)?

Pardon my seemingly harsh words, but how old are you? I'm asking because it's clear that you have this desire to follow the crowd and fit in with a certain group of people, which is something you will hopefully grow out of when you get older.
The scene you're talking about started as a way to be DIFFERENT, finding styles that aren't popular in average society and creating a unique style to stand out from the crowd, much like punk and even the emo culture. But just as punk and emo became trendy, the same happened with "scene".
Why would you want to be like other people? it's ok to admire their style and dress similarly, but do it for yourself, not for the sake of fitting in.
Dress how you like..who gives a shit if it fits in with the "scene", does it really matter? maybe with some maturing you will find that it really doesn't matter. if you want to dress like a scenster then go ahead, just don't be a sheep, don't ignore who you are, and don't do it for anyone but yourself. Believe it or not, people can see through the fakeness.

if you're still into acting "scene", here:

http://www.ehow.com/how_2208678_dress-as-scene-kid-female.html

a simple google search for "how to be scene" has thousands of results.

what's is a good drum set for a rockband. I don't wantto buy a sucky one. Like maybe one from ebay but i would just want to know what a good one would be.

to add to the other answer, Tama also makes good starter kits, notably the 'swingstar' series. Check websites like musiciansfriend.com, they will have reviews of different drum kits.

if you get a kit and it doesn't sound as good as you'd like it to, replace the drum heads, it's amazing how much of a difference new drum heads can make.

i keep looking up tickets and the cheapest i could probably get is general admission (GA) But I can't find it on this map! where would i sit?

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j212/Moodymare55/stubhub_31192_HouseofBluesOH_EndGAF.png

General Admission may refer to standing room, which on that map would be the "open to dance floor or stage" area, or it could refer to a system where a section of seats are open and you choose wherever you want to sit [first come first served basis].

All concerts I have been to have been general admission for standing room only, although it depends on the the specific venue and concert.

Call the venue if you want to be certain where your tickets will place you.

my friends keep suggesting i read really depressing books. like philosophy and stuff. my brothers girl friend told me to read chelsea handlers book my horizontal life and her other book.. it is sooo funny. i like reading now and it doesnt make me depressed. one problem though... i dont know any other books like it. i like dark humor.. alot. rude and crude type of stuff. and it is okay if it has dirty stuff i am over 18. so please any suggestions on really great funny books that would be fantastic thanks in advanced.

"Hairstyles of the Damned" is a great book. Funny moments, philosophical/existential moments, good stuff.

A lot of stuff by Chuck Palahinuik has the dark humor going on. I would recommend "Survivor". Or if you're feeling particularly adventurous and really do not mind gross/crude humor, there's a short story by Palahinuik called "Guts," you can find it online. It's really gross though but funny in a way.

If you're going for just funny without the dark side I would suggest just browsing the humor section at the bookstore. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert both have hilarious books. And "The Practical Guide To Racism" if you're daring and don't mind stereotypes is also hilarious.

Is there such a thing as free online guitar lessons? I am looking for free online guitar instructional videos to teach me how to play and am coming up with nothing that is actually free. I have a list of free guitar tabs online, but that isn't getting me anywhere without the basics. I just bought my first guitar (which is a Fender guitar) so I am very new and learning the basics to playing guitar. I am teaching myself how to play guitar and am simply looking for videos that can teach me how to play guitar for some pointers.

Guitar lessons for beginners would be ideal, but any free guitar lessons would be great.
