Endurance and drumming

Question Posted Tuesday December 30 2008, 9:02 pm

This is a question for you drummers out there!

I just purchased a double bass pedal. Well not only can I get the timing right but I also get exhausted from using it!

Any tips are welcome.

Like doing certain exercises at the gym?

The best thing you can do is to practice with a metronome. Start slowly too. Find a speed where you can do it flawlessly, then increase the speed only slightly and practice there. Keep doing that until you're a god.

Practice. Everyday. It's not going to happen overnight.

Start out doing a slow, constant beat, nothing faster than you can handle for a good long time. Double bass takes a lot of practice but when you build up endurance through starting out slow you can see fast progress. I've started doing leg muscle exercises at the gym, you know like the machines, can't say if it's actually helping yet though. So yeah, start out slow, very gradually increase your speed to nothing more than you can handle, you'll get faster with time.
