Camera How do I take pictures where the subject is in focus and the background is a bit blurry? I know all about aperture and shutter speed, but I don't have an SLR, and my "manual" setting really only lets me adjust the shutter speed. I can use the macro setting to take close-ups where only the foreground is in focus, but that doesn't help when it comes to pictures of larger objects. Any ideas?

The reason you can't get a good DOF with larger objects is because your camera is already at the hyperfocal distance (or further) for the lens, meaning everything from that distance onward is in focus even if you adjust aperture. In order to get the blurred background, your subject has to be reasonably close to the camera while the background is further away.
An alternative is to use photoshop to blur the background of the picture yourself. ]
