advice
I received a baby shower invitation today, and I plan on going, but there is no "please RSVP" on the invite. Tt saiys "regrets only" and then has a phone number. I assume that this means to only "rsvp" if you CAN'T go. Am I correct?
Also, do you think it would be strange if I brought 2 friends with me? The pregnant woman is actually a former teacher of mine (and the two people I'd like to bring), and when I attended her wedding a few years ago I felt sort of awkward because I didn't really know anyone there (I was the only student there because I was really close to her - she was like a big sister to me). She had told me afterwords that I could have brought a friend or two with me to the wedding.
I wouldn't doubt that I'd be the only student there (I've actually graduated high school already...)
I would just ask her, but there are a few reasons I can't.
I would just invite one of the two girls I want to (the other can be a tad obnoxious when excited - she's very, very perky) but it's one of those situations where you can't invite one without the other. Again, too much detail to get into it.
Basically, what is the ettiquette for bringing 1-2 friend with you to a shower where you would otherwise not know anybody, and what is the RSVP ettiquette when it says "regrets only"... does that mean only if you don't plan on attending?
Thank you tons and sorry for the crazy length!
Yes, regrets only is if you are not attending. I think that if the two girls you are inviting with you both know the pregnant woman, then that would be perfectly fine. I'm sure she would be fine with it because she told you that you could have brought a few friends to her wedding. I think it would be very polite to call and ask her permission to bring friends, but it's okay if you can't.
Hi. I'm 17 and my boyfriend is 21. We have been together for a year and 4 months now. When we first got together, I remember him telling me about how his neighbor would beat his wife all the time, and he said this with admiration in his voice. I asked him if he thought it was okay to hit a woman, and he said yeah.
He does have anger problems, and the least little thing would set him off.
He used to tell me not to come to his house unless his cousin was with me, and one time I did go without his cousin and he huffed and puffed and balled up his fists, and turned sharply and walked away...later on he told me that he was going to knock me across the yard...he would always tell me how badly he wished he could put his hands on me and put me in my place. One time I was standing outside his car, and he hurt me by pulling my arm halfway through the window and pushing down on it from inside. But he never hit me.
But now he's taking medicine to control his temper and things are much better, and it's like he's a different person. But not long ago, I went to a friend's house, Don, to do his hair, and my boyfriend followed me there and hit the gas and kept speeding past the house, back and forth like a maniac. Then he called everyone he knows and got them to call me to tell me how much he was sorry, etc.
Another thing is that one night he took my cell phone from me and went through it and started calling numbers he didnt know, accusing me of cheating. When I tried to get the phone back, he almost hit me. Then he cornered me, grabbed my face tight, and told me that I had better not be cheating on him.
I'm afraid of him, so when he does things like that, I just lower my head. Then, when we're on the phone the next day, he laughs about how scared of him I was. Now he's told me that he doesnt want me to talk to Don at all anymore, even though I've told him constantly that we're just friends. And to top it off, he's trying to get me pregnant. I've told him I don't want kids right now, but he keeps 'forgetting' condoms or takes them off when I'm not looking. He has actually told me that he wants me to have his baby so that I can't leave him.
He's really a sweet person, and compared to what I went through when we first started dating, our relationship is peaceful now. But now that we're supposed to be living together soon, I'm worried that he might change and go back to his old ways. Call me crazy, but we have a great relationship when he's not angry, and I don't want to leave...I've tried leaving him in the past, but he cries and begs for me to come back. Since he's been taking his medicine the only time he gets really mad is when he thinks I'm cheating or something.
How high is the chance that he's going to become physically abusive in the future? Would this already be considering abuse or controlling behavior? Any thoughts/advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Holy shit, whoa. Look, there's no need for me to read past the first paragraph. If this guy thinks it's okay to hit a woman, he is WRONG. You should never feel like you deserve to be hit by a man.
How high is the chance that he's going to become physically abusive in the future? Honey, it's inevitable. If he's acting this crazy right now, there's no question about it. Physical abuse isn't the only kind of abuse. Just by telling you that he wants to hit you, etc, is mental abuse. Do not put up with it for one second.
Would this already be considered abuse or controlling behavior? YES. This man is not right for you if he scares you!
My ultimate advice is to get far, far away from this guy. Even if he's a sweet person, he does not deserve you. I mean, I don't feel the need to explain to you why you need to leave him because you basically outlined it in your question. Do what's right for YOU and leave him, even if you have to move back in with your parents. This honestly worries me, and I hope that you make the right decision.
i have this bumb in the middle of my lip that isnt a cold sore wat could it be
If it's not a cold sore it could be kind of like acne. Even if you don't normally have acne, it could be some under the skin thing. It sounds like it will go away. Or, if it's on the inside of your mouth, it could be an ulcer. I have an ulcer on the inside of my lip from playing saxophone so much. If it doesn't go away within the next week, try using cold sore medication on it anyway.
what is a good chapstick that actually has a flavor? i bought some dr. pepper chapstick today and it doesn't taste like anything. :(
Lipsmackers is really good. I have Cherry Coke and Barq's Root Beer flavored.
ignorance is bliss
what does that mean?
and what does this mean?
if ignorance is bliss, why arent more people happy?
To me, it means that sometimes it's better to not know something. It's like if someone tells you something disturbing about one of your friends, and you would rather not know it, then ignorance would be bliss in that situation.
And the second quote means that a lot of people are ignorant, which is not necessarily stupid, but really just means that they don't know anything.
I'm 13 about to be 14 and I'm a girl. okay I', gonna get straight to hte point but it may be confusing...
One day me and my mom were in the car and she was like you know that you shouldn't be having sex and se is bad and blah blah. i waslike mom i know. because really i do know the outcomes of sex...its not a good thing and it can change your life! i know!!!! and then she was like after you have sex you get this wet stuff in your underwear and coming out. and i was like okay.... but the thing is i already have that stuff coming out! i know for sure that i have never had sex before! its something that I would never do until I'm married! and it scares me that i already have that stuff coming out. my friend was like you might have been rapped! and thats when i started crying my eyes out to NO limit! so the question is..... how do you know if you've been rapped...but you cant remember anything??...or is that a natural part of life??...thankz in advance for the help!!
Okay, calm down, you haven't had sex before, you haven't been raped. It's discharge. It happens to most every girl when they are around 13. It comes with being at an age where you start your period. It's completely normal, and everybody has it. And yes, discharge does have a smell. As for your friends, maybe they don't have it now but they will within the next few years.
It's nothing to worry about. Even if you haven't started your period yet, it's normal to have discharge. It's basically how your body cleans itself down there, if that makes sense.
Don't worry! It's perfectly normal. If it bothers you, you can use pantiliners. They're not as thick or annoying as pads.
Okay, so my family has a 4 year old female yellow lab. She is a part of our family but is locked in the kitchen when we have to go out or when we go to sleep. Many times lately my parents have walked her at let's say 4 then at 6 found a little puddle of pee on the floor. She is trained not to and these past few months have been the first time since she was only a small puppy. My mom called the vet and the vet told her it is probably just the dog being spiteful. Now my parents are getting fed up and saying that they are giving her away soon. I love my dog so much but I don't know what to do to make her stop peeing on the floor. Help?
The problem is that you're keeping a yellow lab in a kitchen for most of the day. A dog that size needs room to run. Hell, my lapdog would be just as pissed if I confined her to one room. When I started reading this, I was thinking that maybe your dog has a bladder problem, but I agree with the vet- your dog is spiteful, and for good reason.
It's not the dog's fault. She just wants room to run. Do you have a backyard you could keep her in? If not, then either figure out how to give her more space to run and play or give her away. If you truly want what's best for your dog, you need to act one way or another.
It sucks, but it's the way things work. My family had to give our dogs away several years ago because they just didn't have enough room to run. And now the dogs are happy.
What do cramps feel like? How do you know when you have them? Are they just like a normal stomach ache?
I'm really curious about whether I have them or not. I don't know what they feel like since I've never gotten my period. I've been having weird stomach pains in the area level with my belly-button. I'd always thought cramps were supposed to be below your belly button...?
Thank you!
15/f
If it doesn't feel like a normal stomach pain, then it could be cramps. Most of the time, you'll know when you have cramps because you will literally want to die. And yes, it's normally below the belly-button.
i was the prson who ate the cheesecake and whatnot and gained like 3-4 pounds
the day that i sent in the question i went running for 3-4 miles and
ate sushi and low fat ice cream (and water)
i probably did have too much of that though
through out the day though when i weighed myself the number did go down to 115 after awhile
the next day (yesterday)
i went running in the morning for 1-2 miles
then had work (which is a camp that involves little kids)
so that must have burned something
went to the gym for an hour (one class is supposed to burn like 700 calories)
then went running again for another 1-2 miles
the only food i ate (which was in one meal) was
a piece of low fat chicken (300 calories)
salad with low fat dressing (300)
and some turkey in light honey mustard (300-400?)
i get on the scale this morning to find that im still 119
if im eating a lot less then sweating myself to death with working out, why am i not back at my normal weight?
I think your problem is that you're not eating quite enough to balance out your exercise. Sure, that definitely sounds weird and retarded, but I'll explain.
It sounds like you're a pretty active person and that you work out a lot. So for that reason, you would absolutely need more carbohydrates than someone who sits around all day. That's because carbs give you energy, and if you work out, energy is exactly what you need. Think of a car running out of gas on the highway. Besides, athletes have to eat way more calories than regular people so they don't die or something (2000 calories a day is recommended for normal adults).
Anyway, the "low-carb diets" that you hear about work for some people, but if you exercise pretty much every day a low-carb diet is not for you. That's because you want to lose weight and be healthy at the same time, which means getting all the nutrients (and carbohydrates) you need.
A lot of people think carbohydrates are these terrible things that make you gain weight, but they're wrong, for the most part. There are lots of good carbs you can eat, such as fruits, veggies, grains (bread, pasta, rice, noodles), and potatoes.
Whew, this is a pretty long answer but keep reading :)
So, let's take a look at the meal that you described. Chicken is a great protein, salad=vegetable, and turkey is another good lean protein. The problem is that you're missing out on some carbs, and you're not eating throughout the day. My theory is that if you get up and eat a good breakfast in the morning, it will keep you going throughout the day (energy-wise). Here's an example:
Breakfast
Cereal (Special K is awesome) or oatmeal (Quaker makes these instant oatmeal packets in different flavors)
Juice/Milk/Water/Something
Toast
Fruit or something
You don't really have to eat all of that, it's just an idea. Also, soy/skim milk is overrated so don't feel like you have to drink nasty crap to lose weight. If you like it, then great, but I drink whole milk and I'm not dead yet.
(Fact: When you're on your period, you are more likely to gain random weight. For whatever reason. One time when I had mine, I ran three miles every day during it and still gained five pounds. How crazy is that?)
Muscle weighs more than fat, so you might be gaining muscle weight from going to the gym, depending on what you do there. But running generally burns the most fat ever.
I hope I've answered your question and given you some insight. Good luck :)
what are some things that i can say to my mom to tell her that i have started my period?
If your mom is anything like my mom, she will have no clue what you're talking about unless you just come out and say it. Unless you want to be like, "Go buy me some pads." Then she might get the picture.
its not relly adivce but i was just wondering about some of our advice columists and if they can answer me on this.
what do you like to do for fun? other then hanging out hehe.
what are you interest?
who would you like to meet?
describe yourself in a paragraph.
I know its dumb but i was just curious and its a really easy question that id love to just get input on.
I love this question! Haha.
Well, I'm a musician. I play piano, guitar, saxophone, et cetera... I'm sax section leader in marching band and I'm in jazz band as well.
I love to read, cook, and do crazy stuff. I like to run, but I'm not good at it whatsoever. I have a close-knit group of friends, and about once a month we go eat breakfast at a random waffle house, or go have coffee at some hole-in-the-wall place. We all love John Mayer with a burning passion, even the boys (who are not gay). For whatever reason, people think of us as "indie"... we're just as "mainstream" as any other group of friends so don't ask me why :)
I tell people that I want to major in business at a big university, but I secretly want to play guitar and sing in a blues band.
I'd like to meet some guy who looks like James Marsden and wants to be my boyfriend :)
I have this neutrogena face scrub. I wet my face with a washcloth and follow the steps. But when it says rinse I get confused.
How can I rinse my face using a sink? I cant fit my head under the faucet lol
Does just using your hands to rub your face with water and drying (patting it dry) with a towel count as rinsing your face and drying it? (I'm using the washing the dishes echnique for that theory =/)
Yeah, just try to splash water on your face until you feel like the scrub is gone. You'll probably have to splash yourself a lot. And yes, that counts as rinsing and drying it. I think it's easier to wash my face in the shower, you might want to try it.
so for the past few months ive been working out almost every day, burning about 700 calories
and for the past few weeks ive even been eating healthier/less
basically 24 hours ago, my friend threw a party, and we wound up eating a ton of cheesecake, along with other horrible foods, and a LOT of them
i get home to find myself 3-4 pounds heavier than before the party
my friends metabolism is incredible and will automatically burn it for her
mine...not so great
how do i go about losing this additional weight, along with losing the weight i already have?
p.s. i'm 14/f, 5'3 usually 115
now im about 118-119ish
i was considering not eating for the next few days or whatever
would that help?
Okay, keep eating, keep doing what you're doing- there's no way your stomach could have digested all that cheesecake by the time you got home. It's just the weight of the food in your stomach. And besides, your weight changes by a few pounds periodically throughout the day anyway. In the morning, I'm 122, and by nighttime, I'm 126. It doesn't make sense, but it happens. Your weight at any given time also depends on how much you've used the bathroom that day. So wait a few days and weigh yourself again.
Would not eating for the next few days help? Most certainly not. That's pretty much THE worst thing you can do for your metabolism.
Great job on working out and eating healthier. I don't think you have anything to worry about, really. It sounds like you've gotten your metabolism up with all the working out so you might be surprised at how your body handles the cheesecake.
Just wait a few days and weigh yourself again- in the morning and at night so you get an accurate reading.
1. Money makes me happy
2. Money enables me to help others.
3. Money is the most important thing in life.
4. Love is more important than money.
5. We need beauty in our lives.
Do you agree with it? Why?
1. Yes and no. Yes, because it makes me happy for a short period of time. But the novelty wears away.
2. Yes. Not that you can't help others for free, but I enjoy giving money to charity, which helps others. However, I feel better if I volunteer for a charity than if I just give money.
3. No. Not at all.
4. Yes, completely.
5. Yes, in some way. Not necessarily the beauty that's in a magazine, but the beauty that is in being happy.
I just found out my grandfather will be passing away soon. I cant think of any songs to listen to about losing someone special like he is. any ideas?
thanks
"Stop This Train" by John Mayer.
I have a feeling that my grandfather will too.
what better
uggs
denim chip & pepper mini
cami and pastel tie front cardigan
or:
true relgion jeans
bcbg metallic wedges
grey silk tunic
brown leather belt
The last outfit sounds better. Personally I think the Uggs and miniskirt thing is a little overdone. People have been doing that for like 5 years. And besides, the last outfit will not go out of style anytime soon.
I just want to speculate here... I think that our teacher (high school) is going to pick a very big musical for next year in school. She's already done things like Oaklahoma!, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Sound of Music, and Beauty and the Beast. We need a musical with more girl parts than guy parts. What do you guys think that we might do? Oh, by the way, I already looked up Wicked, but it's on Broadway still, and I don't think anyone will be getting the rights to it anytime soon. Any thoughts would really be appreciated, as I've already talked to my family and friends about this, and they are bored to death with the subject!
Thoroughly Modern Millie is a great musical with many girl parts (and just a few guy parts). When my school did it, we had a huge flashy set and a small orchestra. It was definitely a crowd pleaser.
I want to buy an ipod nano. but if i do do i have to buy the songs off of itunes or can i do it through lime wire like the older versions?
It will be the same as the older versions. Limewire will work with it.
Though from a musician's standpoint I'd urge you to actually buy at least some of your music... that way, you won't get as much spyware/adware/crap on your computer from Limewire and you will be supporting your favorite bands. Your choice though.
my hair is SO dull! I mean, I like the hairstyle and stuff, it just doesn't have that extra "glow" to it, ya know? I use fructis{sp?} shampoo and conditioner currently. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!!
Pantene makes shampoos that are specific to hair color- blonde, brunette, and red. I used their Blonde Expressions shampoo/conditioner on my hair (which is actually kind of light brown), and it really brought out the color of my hair and made it super duper shiny. Pantene is really the only product that I've had luck with as far as enhancing my hair color/shine. I've used Suave, Garnier Fructis, and Infusium, and none of those really make my hair shine as well as Pantene does.
A similar product is by John Frieda, and comes in Sheer Blonde, Brilliant Brunette, and Radiant Red. It worked well for me, for a while, but Pantene has been much better.
If you have a lot of dead ends, it will help a bunch to get them trimmed.
on a website im looking at, it says:
"Apparently, after about 45 minutes of intense exercise your body does not benefit any longer and all you do goes to waste"
so, heres my question. if i wanted to, could i do 45minutes at around 1/2pm, then go back at around 5/6pm and do some more? thanks
Yes... if that statement is true, then you could go back at 5/6 pm. Personally, I've never had a problem with that because I don't really do 45 minutes of balls-to-the-wall intense exercise, but if you do, then it would be better to break it up by a few hours. Sometimes when I do a long workout, I do something like jogging (or Tae-Bo) toward the middle so I don't die in the gym. So if it's really inconvenient for you to go work out twice a day, try doing aerobic exercises in the middle of your workout to stretch your muscles and "recharge" a little bit. Otherwise, the twice a day thing sounds effective.
