If your mom is anything like my mom, she will have no clue what you're talking about unless you just come out and say it. Unless you want to be like, "Go buy me some pads." Then she might get the picture.

I don't know why girls make a huge deal about this! I literally just walked up to my mom and said, "I think I just got my period."
That's honestly, your best approach. Just be honest, and tell her flat out. She's your mom, she's raised you, seen you naked, bathed you, fed you and everything else, there's no reason to be embaressed. Plus, she's already been though it herself.
