Advicenators discussion: When to file an abuse report karenR wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 3:52 pm: This subject has come up in the discussion
forum so I thought I would write something
about it. This way it is available to anyone
who passes by and not just moderators.
First I want to say if someone rates
you a 3, live with it. A 3 is a good
rating and is rarely changed. The only
thing hurt is your ego. As long as your
overall rating doesn't drop below a 3,
you are doing fine.
File a report if...
You have some proof someone is under
the age of 13.
You are rated a 1.
If YOU rate someone a 1.
If someone has left you mean, rude
or nasty answer or feedback.
If you see someone else being left
mean, rude or nasty answers or feedback.
If someone is advising or asking something
illegal or potentially harmful. If you
aren't sure, file a report.
If someone is being giving false information.
If you feel a question is inappropriate
for the site. This will be decided on a
case by case basis but if you are offended
let us know. Who knows what a lot of people
offended might do.
If someone is giving an answer to a sex
question in Technicolor report it. We
don't need questions or answers on here
that look like they belong on a porn site.
If someone is promoting their website,
their Myspace etc. in a question. File
a report. I have recently deleted a couple
of questions asking people to please add
them on their myspace.
I'm not sure how the other upper mods feel
about it but I usually delete anything
asking us to give opinions on their poems,
songs and "am I ugly" picture links provided
questions. There are other websites that
will critique poetry and stories. This site
is also not here to feed egos. I don't think.
Drinking, smoking, drug use and running away
are all illegal if a person is underage.
Regardless of how you feel about these things
we are not here to promote any of them. Do
you really know how old the person asking is?
Legal age people don't ask how much it takes
to get drunk, high etc. Don't tell them. If
you see it, report it. It depends on the
question. I am not saying all questions on
these subject are taboo. Just remember you
could be advising a 13 year old who says
they are 21. Use your head.
Thats really all you have to do. Use your
head. If it just doesn't sound right, report
it. :)
Cux wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 4:44 pm: Thanks- and as always- I love reading your tutorials ;] S_C wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 4:46 pm: YG, this should be a when and a HOW. People need to understand to state WHY they are filing the report.
I don't know if I can speak for any admin other than myself, but I want to pull my hair out when I receive an abuse report with someone thinking that they are getting to yell at the person who rated them, or people who report without including the link, sometimes we have those who just give us a link without telling us what they're reporting. We skim over the content and don't really see what they're reporting (unless it's really obvious). Tell us what you're reporting, don't JUST give the link because, if the other admins are anything like me, they will probably over look whatever problem is there.
Oh, and DON'T put anything like "I don't know" where it asks for the persons user name. If you don't know, leave it blank. I know it says that on the page but you all don't realize how many people still put "I don't know". It always messes me up when you guys do that.
Ahh, sorry for the rant. Cux wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 4:51 pm: Hopefully when I file abuse reports I explain enough..
How often would you say people don't file abuse reports correctly? ASAPcamille wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 5:35 pm: Hahha I remember when I used to file abuse reports I always did the "I dont know" thing.
That was when I first got here.
Then I got yelled at:] karenR wrote Sunday February 24 2008, 5:45 pm: I should have added that. Thanks S_C. Add whatever you like, by all means. Love to have you do that.
Adding the links are very important. A lot of
people don't do that and most of the time I
won't go try and hunt it down either. Sometimes
its like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
I'll know the very question they are talking about but just can't find it.
Many times it is our younger users. It is
probably a case of them not even knowing
what a link is. I will try to explain how
to get the question link for those who don't
know how.
Using this page as the example. If you look up there in your address bar you will see this...
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
There is an address like this on every page you visit on every site on the internet. Before
you file an abuse report take your mouse up
to that address on the page that has the bad answer, question or rating.
Right click your mouse.
scroll down to "copy" and click on that.
Go to the report abuse page.
In the big box where you write your abuse report,
Right click your mouse again. This time, scroll
down and click on "paste".
Now we have the link we need!
Now give us a brief reason that we need to be looking at this link.
Please do not copy/paste the entire question
or answers. We can go look at that. Just tell us what the problem is. :)
