Both courses had extensive math requirements surrounding the administration of drugs as the dosage varies by the patients age and weight. For the most part you will need to be truly function-able in basic and advances algebra if you will be administering any medications.
I will add that the duties of a medical assistant do vary from state to state I would suggest you see what the job requirement(s) are in your state then decide if this position is a good fit for you [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

Of course, there are some basic concepts with math that you will need to learn in order to pass your exams & do your job well. Generally, you will need to have passed at least 10th grade math (or be capable of doing so) in order to deal with the types of things you'll need to be able to do as a MA. Regarding the exams, most math questions will deal with the metric system, fractions/percentages, basic algebra & statistics.
