Question Posted Thursday March 19 2015, 10:19 am

Hi! Ok, so last night me and one of my guy friends were texting. We started talking about tv shows and how we preferred the old ones over the new ones and was saying about how we wished they still made them that way. He said the old movies are what he preferes so he doesn't ever go to the movies. I said I also prefer the old ones but still go when something good comes on. I then sent him a picture of me and my sister dressed up for the movie we were going to in front of a poster. he laughed and said I must've really been excited for the movie I was seeing. I told him I thought I already told him about it and his response was "you don't tell me everything." Im thinking "where the heck did that come from!?" I pretend not to notice and said I thought I told him and then said how it was really good, if you like that kind of thing and he says "I don't like it." And still doesn't seem to let go of the idea that I didn't tell him about me going. I've only known him for almost a year. He doesn't tell me everything about him and frankly, we havnt known each other long enough to just start telling each other every little thing about ourselves. And just last week I found out he had a kid brother and he refused to tell me anything about him and I just let it go. Now he's upset because I didn't tell him about me and my sister going to see a movie. And it's not like we hang every day. We live over an hour away from each other so we just text sometimes. We both met with one of my friends and I met him the day after I met her, so we all know each other. I'm gonna call her today and ask if he's been upset with me, but honestly, I think this whole argument is freakin stupid. Can anyone give me advice on how to handle this, or maybe why he gor upset over something so small? I mean, he already knew about my siblings, and to me that's a bigger thing to talk about than a trip to the movies with my sister. Advice please?🙏

You're right, it is a stupid argument. Especially since he doesn't pull his end of the rope and share things about himself too.
I think you don't need to worry so much about telling him things about you (especially something as trivial as going to the theatre with your sister) when it took a year for you to even find out he has a younger brother. Clearly, he expects more out of you than he, himself, is willing to give.
That should tell you something about him, in general.

More importantly, though. How important is this friend to you? It doesn't sound like you hang out or talk that often, what makes him so valuable to you? If you're not even in a relationship I don't see why this sharing thing is such a big deal.
