I am a fifteen year old girl, I am 5'4" and I weigh 112.6. I really need to lose some weight, I was thinking 10 pounds. I just feel so fat. I want a toned body, as well as a flat stomach. Any suggestions?
Like adviceman said, you can lose weight but you'll end up feeling the same way.
So since you want a flat stomach, do exercises that are specifically meant to tone your stomach. You can google some and if you keep doing it, you'll be happy in your results. Besides that, eat right, try not to drink a lot of soda, or eat chips, candy, ect. And drink lots of water. [ lightoftruth's advice column | Ask lightoftruth A Question ]

You can get a flat stomach without losing weight. You can also lose weight and not get the flat stomach you are looking for. To get that toned flat stomach takes exercises that will tone your stomach muscles. For lack of another name lets call them the six pack muscles.
I am going to assume for the sake of this writing that you are in your mid teens. If you start to exercise these muscles now; get them toned up then keep them tones. When you're older and want to have a baby and continue to exercise through your pregnancy; you will retain your flat stomach after pregnancy.
Weight lose and a tone body do not go hand in hand. IN actuality when you tone up a muscle you are trading fat for muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so you may gain a pound or two while exercising. For you this would be a good thing.
What would be bad would be to lose the 10 pounds you talk about. It is far better to be 10 pounds overweight than 10 pounds underweight. Especially now when you going through puberty and you body needs to draw on those on all its resources to transform you from a girl to a women.
I'm not sure what or how they teach you about how the body works in school today. If you look at the body as an electric car the body works this way. The food you eat is the fuel for the heart, which is the electric motor. The engine supplies power to the brain; which is the control module that operates all the systems in the car; your body.
Now if there is not enough fuel to operate the heart at full power and keep the control center running. Directions are given to draw on the reserves. The reserves are the our body fat which we all need some of. If there is not sufficient body fat to draw on we are in trouble for the main goal of our body is to keep the brain alive. What happens next if not corrected quickly can and will lead to death. Don't take my word for it ask your doctor.
When there is insufficient fuel and insufficient fat the body starts to shut down different systems it feels it can live without. First the kidneys start to malfunction; then the liver. Now you're in the hospital. If the doctors cannot correct these two problems then the heart and lungs start fail and finally the brain dies. This is what kills people suffering from Anorexia Nervosa.
My advise to you now that I have explained the dangers of losing 10 pounds to you is not to lose that weight. You are for all intensive purposes at the low end of the proper weight for someone of your height if you are small framed. IF you are of a larger frame size you need to gain weight and I suggest you see your doctor for a complete physical to make sure you have not damaged anything by being underweight.
Am I trying to scare you. YES; to many young girls try look as the models in the magazines. Even the models in the magazines don't look like the pictures. Those pictures are all enhanced to make the models look better than they do. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]

Here's a link to a weight chart, which takes into consideration whether your skeletal frame is thin, or the bones of medium size circumferance or big as that will add weight to a person without them being overweight.
If you want to get toned up, our muscles can always benefit from that. Yoga is actually a good way to do so and something you can do on your own. Look for yoga video's on youtube and try it. If you like it, you might consider joining a class. Swimming is good to and the local pools are inexpensive and many have cut rates for those who are residents of the neighborhood...talk a girlfriend into going with you. Gyms are great too and girls can do weight lifting too. Things like bike riding, running, jogging exercise the legs more but are also good aerobics for the heart, something to consider in the total body health.
Lots of teen girls are extremely concerned about their body image. It's due to societys perception of what is beauty and what makes us more accepted and liked or even desirable to the opposite sex.
The only people who will tell you that you are not good enough as you look are those to seek to earn a profit from selling you something that you get brainwashed to believe will make you slimmer, more popular, help you fit in, be part of the popular crowd and gain self confidence. Not all males believe what media portrays as normal, beautiful females at any age. Yes, theres some guys who seek model or tv star beauty which is only a lie, some of the actresses if you see them without makeup are more homely looking than any average girl you can point at on the street. Its all an illusion. There are guys who have no preferance to body type and shape and also no problem with a girl being a little overweight to lots overweight. What all healthy minded men have in common that they like most in a female is self confidence and good self image. If she has that, she will be attractive to quite a few guys. Maybe not all because we all have personal preferances, like for example, I am attracted to guys who are brunette over blondes or redheads.
Try not to worry about your weight dear. In fact, your body is still changing and your looks facial and body will change some. There are some weight charts that do not include females under the age of 18 if you are going by age for that very reason. Relax, and work on your self confidence. If you want some ideas on how to do that, write me again. Good luck. [ Dragonflymagic's advice column | Ask Dragonflymagic A Question ]
