obsessed with gum and lollipops. obsessed!

Question Posted Friday March 21 2014, 6:53 pm

Right now I'm sucking a ring pop. I could go through an entire pack of gum no matter how big in 5days. At the most. Every time I finish a gum piece, or a lollipop, I want another one. And when I'm not, I'm sucking or chewing on something else…THAT ISN'T FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This could include, hard objects, squishy objects, toenails, etc. What is wrong with me? Now I'm gonna get another lollipop. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a fixation with oral stimulation. Assuming you're not someone who recently quit smoking, it is probably linked to an infantile comfort.

Many people (secretly) retain infantile comfort systems from chewing/sucking, to rocking, to humming.

I personally have a fixation on the feel of a certain fabric of which my baby blanket was made of.

Is your life stressful? Does doing this relieve stress?
If it's not actually disrupting your life, I would simply embrace it and not let it worry you.

I concur with the other advice giver. It sounds like an addiction of sorts or A habit pattern that formed due to.?? .....whatever changed in your life to start it.

You only asked what is wrong with you. You did not say whether you wanted to change this. If you do, want to stop doing this, you would need to see a professional counselor who specializes in helping people break habits and addictions. It helps greatly to discover what happened in your past to start this kind of behaviour. It's highly unlikely that you were born doing this from birth on. So you would need to be able to provide a specialist with information on yourself and what life experiences or changes happened at which point you began to have a need to have something in your mouth at all times. You can try as was suggested to slowly wean yourself from doing this. But if it doesnt work, you'd need to go see someone to help you break it.

Okaaaaaay soo uhhmmm...I am not sure whats going on with you ...it might be an addictive habit?
.but I recommend trying to go on hour without chewing on something. Try doing something else, like playing with bluetack, or getting a new hobby to take up your time.
If you can survive an hour, tomorrow try 2 hours. Eventually you can get to twenty four. Everyday.

OR

limit yourself to 1 piece of gum a day. It'll take commitment! BUT YOU CAN DO IT. Do an internet search for breaking habit methoods.
