Am I insane...? :\ Serious question!

Question Posted Saturday November 2 2013, 9:14 am

Now please don't criticize too harshly, I'm already insecure enough. But I feel like I was meant to be born a guy. And that being born a girl was a mistake. I'm pretty sure I'm bisexual, but I want to be who I think I was meant to be. Am I sane...? :\

(Sorry, didn't know what other category to ask this.)

Hi! Based on what you've said, I think you might be transgender. There's nothing wrong with being transgender; in fact, I'm transgender myself. :)

In case you don't know what transgender means, I'll do a quick overview of what transgender means as well as similar terms:
- Transgender: an umbrella term for anyone with an internal gender identity that does not match up with one's biological sex.
- Transsexual: a person who is born in the wrong body and wishes to undergo hormone replacement therapy and/or surgery to match their physical gender with their internal gender.
- Genderqueer: an umbrella term for anyone with a gender identity other than male or female.
- Bigender: identifying as both male and female.
- Androgyne: one who identifies as a mix of male and female.
- Genderfluid: having a fluid gender identity.
- Trans woman: a woman who is born male, but identifies as female.
- Trans man: a man who is born female, but identifies as male.

You see, gender is a spectrum. Although the majority of people have gender identities that match their biological sex, that's not everyone!

Here are a few things to ask yourself:
- Do you feel that your internal gender identity and biological sex do not match?
- Which gender would you prefer to be perceived and treated as?
- Which gender would you be more comfortable living as?
- Do you plan on altering your physical appearance so your gender identity and physical gender match? (Note: this doesn't necessarily mean undergoing hormone therapy or surgery, as some transgender people are comfortable simply wearing their gender's clothing and either cutting or growing out their hair.)
- Remember that, like I mentioned before, gender is a spectrum. You can be male, female, both, neither, a mix of the two, genderfluid. . . Whichever you feel you are on the inside. Gender is not a binary -- not everyone fits into the "boy" category or the "girl" category.

The last link is not an article but a helpful test. It takes a while to complete, but it is very accurate. It is called the Sex And Gender Explorer or S.A.G.E Test and covers many aspects of gender identity and expression, biological sex, and brain gender patterns.

I hope this helped. :)

No. You are not crazy. Do you know what transgenders are? If not, go look them up. They are people who feel like they were born in the wrong body, sexuality aside it's mostly about gender. Because there are FTMs, in otherwords a female who got a male sex change, that like guys. and even girls. Being a transgender is all about what you define yourself. And people may call you crazy or even say it's a birth defect or something to do with the way the brain is set up, for me personally I just think it's a soul thing (Like your soul was put into the wrong body and it feels odd, left out, alone, scared even beyond depressed because it knows it's in the wrong body)

First of all, I'm not going to criticize you. :) And you're not crazy at all! The way you feel is fine.

Based on what you have written, I think you might be transgender. That's because you were born female, but you feel like you were meant to be born a guy.

I think you should check out this article. It might help you better understand what being transgender means:

I think seeing a psychologist will help you. A psychologist can help you accept and understand the way you feel, help you feel less confused, and give you options for what to do later in your life.

Just remember this: you're not crazy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling this way. And only you can decide what your true gender is. Your gender identity isn't something that other people can define for you.

I hope everything goes well for you. :) And if you have any other questions about your gender identity and how to deal with feeling this way, you can inbox me anytime.
