I think it's asthma , but I'm seeing a doctor this week. I thought I'd ask you guys before seeing a doctor about this.
About me: I smoke heavily sometimes, I DO NOT inhale the smoke, and I stay for months without any smoke or anything, my breath underwater "sucks" sorry for the word if I'm not allowed to use such language on this board. I can only stay for less than 15seconds holding my breath, I face problems breathing every once in a week.
Any thoughts?
High fives to all like always
-Thank You
Your doctor will use a stethescope to listen you your lungs - checking for blockages or fluid, probably order some blood tests because hey: it's what you do. Maybe have you breathe into a thingy to measure your lung capacity.

Second: There is not enough information here to even suggest what the problem might be even if we were inclined to make a suggestion.
Third: and most important is you are doing the right thing by going to see a doctor. Only your doctor can make a diagnoses which will be based on the results of an examination, any testing that need be done and the doctors knowledge of your personal physiology.
Breathing problems are scary though they are not a reason to jump to a conclusion you have a terminal disease either.
Just so you know most people cannot hold their breath for very long. Fifteen seconds is a lifetime to some people. For those people who can hold their breath for longer periods it is because they have learned how to do so. It requires practice and the ability to slow down your entire body functions, such as heart rate and other functions.
Having a breathing problem once a week makes my very uneducated guess go along with yours that it may be some type of asthma or other type of bronchial spasm.
There is also one other type of breathing problem which is not a breathing problem at all. It could be, given it only happens once a week, that you are having an anxiety attack of some sort not unusual for your age. During these attacks you are actually getting to much oxygen. Breathing into a paper bag restores proper balance and you breath normally again.
Make sure to tell the doctor what is happening to you when these breathing problems occur. When these attacks happen and if they last for any amount of time.
When these attacks happen and if the last for any amount of time you can and should call 911. The EMTS and paramedics that will respond to help you will be able to restore your normal breathing.
As a now retired fire department first responder medical help is what we do today. We would rather you call us than not call us. You do not have to be an adult to call you just have to be having a problem you can't handle such as a breathing problem. If mom and dad are not home to help you then we are there to help you. Just pick up the phone and call. Help will be sent. In my area that help will be the Fire department engine company closest to you, and ambulance from the closest available station and a police officer for your protection. Everyone sent is being sent to help you.
