I can't read while the TV is on; but can't really turn it off. I can't read while other people in the house have the TV on. They seem to be able to do it just fine. It's really driving me crazy. Any advice on how I can learn to read while others are watching TV? I don't want to go into another room or turn the TV off. I want to learn how to read while other things are happening around me. I think that would be an almost invaluble tool these days.

I am a total bookworm so I'm always reading around my house. I'll admit that it is pretty hard to read when others are doing stuff around you, but it isn't impossible. Over the years I taught myself how to block out other people, noise, and things like that. What I do is I pick a really interesting book that you can really get into. Something that really captivates your attention. At first try listening to music while you read your book because it helps you block out a little distraction then when you find it easier for you to do that then try reading while others are watching T.V. I find that it gets easier if you start out watching T.V. while reading the better books then as that goes on you should be able to adjust. Hope that helped!! ]
I've never really had this problem because I've always left the room.
I really don't know how to learn to ignore things happening around you so I might not be much help.
You could possibly try ear plugs, you won't hear the tv or anything else going on around you. ]
If you have an MP3 player, put in some headphones and some really non-distracting music that will drown out the noise of the TV. ]
