Art website..

Question Posted Friday February 8 2013, 12:04 pm

Hey y'al ! =) So for an art project this semester, we have been asked to create a website of anything you want but it has to be to do with art. So its practically a free project as long as it ties in with art. We werent given a website maker or anything so I had to find my own. I used weebly.com and I would like you all to visit my website to let me know what you think =) Thanks!

Cute and simple, but if you want it to stand out, use a little color.

Hey there.

First off, I like the layout. Its a simple and sound design making it easy for the user. Perhaps adding a bit more contrast to the page would make it a little bit easier to read.

You also need more pictures. I would say this of any website, but I think particularly one that deals with art should be more visual. In particular, put more images near the top, so that the user does not have to scroll. It will also make your readers want to read on and bring more life to the page.

Now, art is not one of my strongest skills, but I can comment on the content more generally.

First, much of the text appears to be copied. I cut-pasted a few sentences in google and each time it seemed to be taken word for word from another site. I have no idea what they allow on your course. However, in general, make sure you do not copy content that someone else claims ownership to - I am not saying you have done this, I am just pointing it out.

Second, websites usually have a specific purpose. In many ways it is like writing a paper, where the introduction sets the scene for the content, and the paper as a whole has a specific and often narrow purpose.

Ask yourself what is the objective of your site. From the intro and title a reader would assume that it is to represent all art. This is obviously unrealistic and the content becomes a bit disjointed.

So what about making the scope narrower and in that way offering more cohesive and also deeper content? E.g. you could limit yourself to one type of art, or style, or period. This way you can go deeper and generate a common thread between the different pages, just like you would if it was a written paper. Usually teachers (and readers) really like that.

Anyway, those are my two cents. Like I said at the beginning, I think it's a great start.

Good luck.
