Is it offensive to say you thought a girl was a year older than she actually is?

M/17. I was talking to this girl, and we were talking about birthdays and stuff. I told her that I thought she was older. One year older than she is now. She didn't say anything to me about it, but she started acting different after that day. Are things like that offensive? Does it say anything about me?

But if she is under 23, it shouldn't have offended her unless you have found yourself one hell of a sensitive woman. Teenage girls are usually offended if you say you thought they were younger than they are. [ laynemayhem's advice column | Ask laynemayhem A Question ]

Maybe she thought you were older as well but you're younger than she expected? If not, you might just be reading into it wrong. I wouldn't be offended.
