bike riding/ need to lose weight asap!

Question Posted Wednesday August 15 2012, 12:58 pm

21 f
I gained about 17 pounds this summer since I was away and i really need to lose it ASAP. Because I dont want to start school chubby. :( what are some exercises I can do to help me and for how long? I hate running haha. Thats something I really hate. But anyway my friends and I wanna go bike riding like maybe an hour or 2, 3 or 4 times a week would be cool. What does biking help? I mean I know it's strengthens your legs but is that all? And what are some good foods I could eat? Any thing is helpful really! I stopped all the junk foods. And im trying to get myself to exercise a bit. I am really committed to loosing this weight. Thanks everyone!

What Flare said. Also: do some strength training. Strength training will build muscle, which will burn fat even while you rest. (Don't worry, you won't get all musclebound.) Free weights are good, bodyweight workouts are excellent. Check out nerdfitness.com for free bodyweight workouts and fitness strategies.

Hello.

Any exercise is good, especially if you are relatively new to exercise because your body will lose much more.

Biking is good. Like you say, it strengthens your legs, but also works other parts of your body. It's also great if you go with friends because it's more focussed on fun, and you don't get bored.

If you don't like running, then walking is a good start. Then slowly progress to jogging.

If you can swim, swimming is one of the best exercises you can do because it works the whole body.

Tennis is also good, because you move your upper body, and run around. You don't have to really know how to play- just go with a friend to the park, and have a good time. If you have fun, you're more likely to keep up with it!

Basically, do anything that keeps your body moving!

In regards to food, just use common sense. Avoid processed, fatty, junk food and snacks. If you're addicted to soda, drink sparkling water.

Half your plate should be fruit and veggies. A playing card pack sized amount of protein (meat, eggs, fish, beans, etc), and stick to wholewheat carbs (whole wheat pasta, rice, cous cous, wholegrain bread) instead of the processed white stuff - the fibre will keep you fuller for longer.

Snack on veggies, and make healthy dips such as humous or other ones will fat free greek yogurt (I like getting greek yogurt, and adding ranch dressing seasoning-if you can't find the seasoning, just replace it with salt, pepper, garlic, parsley, dill, and lemon juice- It's all of around 5 calories for the whole bowl, and tastes just like mayo!).

Find new ways of preparing food, so you don't get bored. Marinate your meat, roast broccoli (instead of boiling it. Roasting makes it much tastier), etc.

So in short: have fun, move your body, and use common sense with food. If in doubt, go for nature.

Hope I helped!
