I don't know if this helps, but sometimes kids find themselves in situations where those around them are a bunch of freaking jackasses. And when people are jackasses they should be treated as such and their words given all the credibility that jackasses deserve: none. Stop listening to voices that you know are bad for you and do what you have to do to stay well.

Your parents may also be in a state of denial. Having someone with mental health issues in a family is embarrassing for some folks. It's not your fault, so you shouldn't view it that way. So to cope with what they see as an embarrassing mark on the family, they deny the person in question has a TREATABLE problem. The brain works through chemical and electrical processes and sometimes things get a little out of balance. There are millions of folks like you. You aren't weird or odd.

You seek the treatment you need and then make plans about how you can get yourself into a healthier environment (going away to college perhaps?). Good luck.

Adviceman49 gave some great advice, but I'd like to add something very important. If your doctor prescribed you medication, then you need to take it. The consequences of not taking them can be devastating. I know that from very harsh personal experience. I decided once that my meds prevented me from losing weight, so I threw them out so that I wouldn't be able to take them. I had been doing great mentally until then, but I decided the most important thing was my physical condition. Three days after I threw it out, I had a terrible relapse. It was worse than any other brain dysfunction I've had before. I became really suicidal even though things were going great. Be wise and take your medication and don't give two shits about what your family says. In the end you're gonna be the one who's hurt.

Good luck :)

At 17 by Federal Law you are old enough to seek medical attention on your own; with or without parental permission. Medication alone is not going to cure your depression or eating disorder and I believe you know this.

What I suggest you do is get back into treatment for your depression and eating disorder. Part of your treatment should be with a good psychologist who can help you with theses problems. Having suffered with depression myself I can attest to the fact that my psychologist was a major help in pulling me out of my depression. I believe therapy is also helpful with your eating disorder.

Once you find a therapist you are comfortable with you can ask the therapist for help in convincing your family that you do have a serious illness. The may not want to or wish to ignore your illness hoping it will go away. It is hard to ignore a degreed professional who is working in your best interest.

For your part do not give up on yourself regardless of what is happening at home. You are the one suffering. Your parents and siblings can ignore your illness or you bit they are not the ones suffering, you are. Get back into treatment. This is what you need to do for yourself.

Not knowing where you live I'm not sure if the URL that follows will be of much help, though give them a try. It is a support group locator. IF you can find a support group near you I would suggest you go to a meeting and if possible try and get one or both of your parents to go with you.
