Hard Lump In Breast

Question Posted Wednesday May 2 2012, 9:49 pm

A couple of days ago I felt a hard lump in my right breast and it is still here. I am 13 adn this is the 1st time my mom is actually a little worried about something that is wrong with me. Could this just be a cyst? Or breast cancer? I know a 13 year old girl was once daignosed with breast cancer. So I know it's possible. And I do wear a pretty tight bra every night which I know increases your chances of it. I wear the same bras I had 2 years ago. But my mom might bring me to the doctors soon. Please Help. Thanks!

Flare is right; you MUST SEE A DOCTOR ASAP. Lumps in the breast are not something to fool around with, they need to be checked out.

In your favor is the fact that you know how to examine your breasts and you found the lump early. You are young and the chances are very good that the lump is benign. Even if it is not early detection means I rate of cure and gives you many options you might not have if you do not seek treatment right away.

Three Christmases ago my wife found a small lump in her breast. At first she wasn't going to say anything to our doctor but at the last minute during a routine visit she did. Our doctor orders a mammogram and at the same time scheduled an appointment with a qualified, Board Certified, breast surgeon. Long story short their were two lumps one was hiding behind a milk duct. Both were small but cancerous. My wife opted for a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Today she is a survivor because she sought treatment early and followed the advice of her doctors.

When I was your age the girl next door found a lump in her breast. It was benign but the doctors recommended a lumpectomy anyway. Today she and I are both 65 years old and she has not had another lump in her breast.

Why have I told you these two stories. Because until you see a doctor you will not know what the lump is and the lump does not have to be cancerous. But until you know all you can do is worry. If it is cancer you have caught it early and early detection has an almost 100% cure rate. The small percentage of non cure rates in my mind is for those women that do not follow or follow through with the doctors orders.

Mom needs to bring you to the doctor now. All she needs to do is call her GYN is that you found a lump and they will clear a place in the doctors schedule for you.

It could be a cyst, but it may also be cancer. The only way to tell is by getting it checked out. And it's not a matter of your mother "might" be taking you to the doctor, you *HAVE* to go as soon as possible to get it checked out.

It's the only way you'll know.
