My friends always tell me they don't understand how I write songs, they think it's hard. It's really easy though.
But first things first.
You can't force yourself to write a song. It has to come naturally.
I've been writing songs since third grade, and from third grade to sixth, I tried too much/hard. And the things I wrote didn't apply to my own life.
Then in eighth grade I wrote about my boyfriend moving away.
TRUST ME. It's SO much easier to write a song that comes from life. It just sort of.. comes out of you.

The tune/melody... it helps if you play an instrument such as guitar or piano. I didn't at first, but I wanted to. So I taught myself how to play the piano. Then I got a guitar for dummies book. And I've found that knowing how to play those help A LOT with the melody/tune.

But even if you don't, you can still write.

So.

Just write down feelings from.. ehh... maybe a certain turning point that you've had in your life so far. If it's a sad or depressing time, try to make the song slower, to create a sadder feel to it. The opposite goes for a happier time: create a happy, upbeat song.

That's all I can think of right now, but let me know how it works out for you! :)

you just write, get a piece of paper and just write maybe after some motivation hits. If you need to practice take some tunes that you really relate to alright or you always felt could use a little changing and write your own version it's good practice for many songwriters.

Inspiration comes only to the minds of geniuses. If you don't get it, give it up for a while. When I try to write songs, it's usually when I'm feeling blue and those songs usually are pretty low themselves. Although, I doubt geniuses can be created like that. Any way, give it a shot.
