Yes, it is painful. The degree of which it is painful can be determined by how comfortable you are with the person that you are with. How much you trust them, care for them, etc.
What you do need to realize is that now is the time to decide WHY you want to have sex. Although the media and the like may make it seem like sex is no big deal...it is a big deal, ecspecially the first time. You will be giving away a huge part of yourself that you can not get back. And you may regret it later on, or even right away. How will you feel if the boy no longer stays with you after you do it? It very well could happen. Then you are left feeling used after giving away something that should mean a very lot to you.

Honestly it depends on if youu use tampons or pads because if you use pads yes it will definitely hurt because nothing has ever entered you but if you use tampons you might have a good chance on escaping the pain because you might already have "popped your cherry". I hope I helped. :)
