I have the flu and my doctor gave my a tablet to swallow twice a day. Im deathly afraid of throwing up and one of the possible side effects are nausea and vomiting. Also I HATE swallowing pills. I choked on one once and cant do it since then. Will it make me nauseous? And how do I swallow such a big pill? Please help quickly becase I need to take it now, it's sitting right next to me...staring me down :( Thanks!

I have taken pills for years and I've found that sometimes a half of glass of juice is much better then taking a pill with water. The juice gives flavor and it won't leave such a pill taste in your mouth. Also, (This is weird!) but if you eat a spoonful of peanut butter and then take your pill even with water it will help tremendously by again not tasting the aftermath of the pill. Even capsules sometimes have a medicated taste which makes me gag at times.
Try doing the juice method first and see if it works out for you, If not then try the peanut butter. Sometimes when you can't taste the pill it helps to swallow it. If you aren't used to taking medication then of course you can expect to have a hard time with it at first but the more you do it the used too it you will get.
Now, If the medication is not in capsule form then you could try cutting it in half and taking half and half at a time. If it is in capsule form then pop it in take a giant sip of water and swallow it down! Make sure you eat afterwards because sometimes taking medication on an empty stomach can make your stomach upset. [ Xui's advice column | Ask Xui A Question ]

My 5 year old has to swallow to large capsules every morning I thought him by placing the pill in his mouth and getting a drink of water and swallow it took him a few tries at first.
